Default Motor not what it used to be

I have a 2000 Civic with a 95 H22A1. The mechanic who put the engine in, smashed the Throttle Position sensor and managed to get it function partially. It only registers fully open or fully shut. I have a hondata S200 that was adjusted with the broken TPS. It still ran hard, but it would die when coming off the throttle and coming to a stop. I bought another TPS and installed it. Now it idles between 1000-1500 rpm. It barely moves down the street. Does anyone know any ideas? Thanks.

Probably need to get the Hondata retuned, but you could always check your timing, do some basic tune-up stuff and check for any CELs...

Yeah I checked the timing and stuff. I put the stock prelude ecu in and it didn't run much better. No check lights come on at all. Have no clue what's up. The closest hondata tuner is a hour and a half away.

Sorry for a dumb question, but did you jump the connector under the dash to check for codes and use the flywheel & cam gears to check the timing?

If so, I guess the next thing would be to try another TPS. How did you end up getting a new one anyhow??

I didn't jump the connectors. I'm not sure which ones to jump. I know which ones on my supra, but not my honda. I got my tps from jhot imports. I appreciate the help your giving. Thanks alot!

OK, on a stock Prelude there is a little 2-wire blue connector behind the dash that you stick a paperclip in both sides and the CEL will flash a certain number of times and tell you the engine code. I don't know where yours will be, but maybe you can find that little blue connector.....

Used TPS?? Honda doesn't sell them seperately.

Okay I'll go look right now. Yeah I know honda doesn't sell the tps by itself. You have to spend an obscene amount of money on a whole new throttle body. Jhot imports had a tps by itself that was removed. Maybe it is broken. I have a 70mm Edelbrock throttle body, but I can't use it since it doesn't have a hook up for the MAP sensor.

Wow that's cool, I have the same Edelbrock TB and it can work just fine (even though it uses a Ford TPS, haha).

Just mount the MAP on the firewall somewhere and you just run a vacuum line to the nipple on the bottom of it and plug it in. Make sure you have the adaptor plate and try that Edelbrock out.

I'm looking at the edelbrock right now and I don't see the nipple on it.

The TB doesn't have a nipple, but you just run the vacuum line from a nipple on the intake manifold to the MAP. Doesn't have to be anything special, just a vacuum source. Some H22/23's are set up that way stock.

Alright it's hooked up and runs idles okay. It idles between 1100-1300 rpm. If i pull the throttle and come off of it, it will bog down and sometimes die. You think that it might be my hondata needed to be retuned or something else. Thanks

well if you messed with the tps signal in honda, i'd imagine after fixing your problem your signal would be getting all mixed up from hondata trying to compensate for the old broken tps.

what i am trying to figure out is why didnt the mechanic who broke the sensor by a new one since it was HIS fault. Kinda shady.

Yeah I was gone away for like a year before I got back and was able to get my car. The mechanic was gone and had no clue what he did. Was not a honda mechanic obviously. Should have drove the extra couple hours.

I installed that throttle body and it had power. not what it had before, but enough to get around, probably enough to brave a trip to the hondata tuner. Now I go and start it a few days later and it doesn't run good at all. It sounds horrible. I checked the error codes and all I get is one long flash. Car barely revs up and gets up my driveway. WTF?!!!
