Default Stuck accelerator

Hi guys, I have a 96 civic lx sedan, everything on it is stock.
The problem is that the accelerator does not go down smoothly. When you try and press it, it either goes down a little or if you push it hard enough it just goes down all the ways, kind of like in steps. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to get it so it moves smoothly? Thanks and let me know if you need any more information about the car.

Did your throttle cable get moved around somehow? When I did my swap and re used my d-series throttle cable when it wasn't lined up perfectly it didn't go down smoothly, straightened it out and now it works like a charm. Idk if that's what it is, just an idea.

I don't know how to adjust it. I checked a Chiltons manual and it said make sure the throttle cable deflection is betwen 3/8" and 1/2". What is the deflection and how do I measure it?

Check the carbon on the butterfly in the throttle body, might need cleaning. also there is a recall on that year where the carpet is in the way and can cause the pedal to stick... You know this was just covered like 2 post away from yours as I posted this.

Ok I will try that, but the other thread did not answer my question of what is the deflection and how do I measure it.

Might be time for a new throttle cable.
It might be binding.
