Default Gas Guage way off

What are ALL the possibilities for a gas guage to be off? I have 8 gallons in the car and its showing only 1/4 tank. sending unit, wiring?

1994 ex with b16 swap/turbo etc.It worked fine with the stock sohc, but since the new motor, and upgraded walboro 255lph pump. the needle has been way off.

Im running AEM ems if that makes a differnce

float rod being bent, corroded connections, gauge itself being off, hmmm thats the major ones I can think of pertaining to what your saying in your post.

When you turn your car off where does the needle drop down too? you might want to try opening the cover and adjusting that by hand (move it with your finger) so its more acurate. but the best bet would be to get a scanner and see what the sending unit is actually telling the cluster and go from there.
