How do I advance my cluster?
I have an SI cluster on my EX. I am getting ready to sell my EX and I need to advance my cluster 80k mi. I sold my EX cluster. My car should have around 125k and the cluster only has 48k...
I know the odometer operates on three wires. There is a positive, a negative and the signal wire. Voltage when the car is running is 14v. The voltage on the signal wire is also 14v @ 0mph. When the speed goes up the voltage from the signal wire drops.
So I took the signal wire out of the harness and ran a 10000 ohm resistor between the (+) and my (sp in) screws that go into the odometer... and nothing happened when my car was on... that should of worked... right? or did i over do it with a 10k ohm resistor...?
Does anyone know how to advance miles without having to open up the cluster? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks...

take a vss out of the tranny pluge it in to the clip for it then use a power drill will the car is on try not running and running plug the hole in the tranny with a rage
the VSS signal is a square wave (see 12V then ground then 12V then ground... etc) from the VSS. the speed of the fluctuation depends on the speed of the vehicle.
I think if I remember right 60mph is around 1450 cycles per second. (it's been a while)
to put on 100k you'd need some serious time, so unless you have the tools to generate a signal like I mentioned above, it would be far easier to do like said above and get it certifeid at the dealership or simply inform the buyer.

Have you ever tried to do that on an EK cluster? the gears that turn the numbers alternate... so if i get the numbers to freely spin... then it wont fit back together correctly

I work on clusters for all gm cars so my suggestion would be to find out who remanufactures honda clusters by calling a honda dealership and either send it to them or ask them how to roll the odo.....with gm vehicles before 95 you have to completely take the cluster apart and manipulate the odo....for cars after 95 they have to be set by being programed. i think that would be your best bet.

I've found that a 9v square wave is enough to get it to start rolling, as long as you have a solid 12V on the power side. (remember common ground)
a generator capable of producing this is more $$$ than buying a new cluster, try to locally find an electronics student or someone that works on electronics for a living, they should be able to help you out.

email me (and1_baller12@hotmail.com) i'll send you a word document with instrustions on how to move the odometer reading up or down, i found it as a how-to somewhere

He's advancing his cluster, not turning it back, tool.
