Default Need help making a decision (keep a car or not?)

I recently made this thread about a new purchase I made, a 1994 Civic for $2200.

Now, when I bought the car I felt a judder when starting out in 1st, and to cover my *** a little, I made an agreement with the buyer saying that I will take it to a mechanic and if it doesn't get the approval then I won't buy it.

Now I went to a transmission place to get it looked at, and they said what you guys had already said - flywheel needs machining, might as well replace clutch while you're at it.

So the estimate turns out to be $674. Now I know its probably inflated, but it really does need the work and i don't really know anybody who'll do it for cheap. There's 4.9 hours of labor to remove and machine the flywheel and put in a new clutch.

What should I do? I just bought it and don't want to sink $500-600 in it from the get-go. Civics and other imports are overpriced here in Minneapolis but the $$ is too much - a quarter of the value of the car right there in an invisible improvement. After that, the rust and the dents will be right there mocking me.

So what should I do? Try to get him to take it back as per agreement or keep it and ...?

How hard is it to install a clutch? Even though I'm on honda-tech I have virtually no experience fixing my car and more importantly no tools.

Couldn't have said it better myself...wow, exactly what I was going to say...b/c I'm a big fan of act stage 1's for daily drivers, just buy the clutch kit (pressure plate, clutch, and throwout bearing) and a lightweight (or OEM if u want) flywheel, u can definately get away with that for like 300 bucks (or less) and u can do it all in a day if u've never done it before.
