carbon-fiber hood product reviews... Seibon pwns VIS
Well, I used to have a VIS OEM-style carbon-fiber hood. After selling it, I just received my Seibon OEM-style carbon-fiber hood. Since there are a lot of questions on here regarding carbon-fiber body panels ( especially hoods ), I thought that I'd do a little comparison for you all to read...
1. weave quality: Seibon wins
When you initially look at the weave pattern of the VIS hood, it looks pretty good. It seems pretty straight and uniform without any twists or swirls. However, when you look at the weave pattern on the Seibon hood, you realize that your VIS hood looks like crap compared to the Seibon hood... as a matter of fact, when I first went to my local shop to pick-up the Seibon hood, I was upset because I thought that it was simulated carbon-fiber ( the weave was THAT PERFECT ).
2. edges: draw
Both the VIS hoods and the Seibon hoods have rolled edges, which is a huge plus over hoods ( such as the Invidia hood ) that have cut edges.
3. underside: Seibon wins
Both the VIS and Seibon hoods have black fiberglass undersides... however, the VIS underside looks like a flat black piece of fiberglass, where as the Seibon underside looks like a finished product. The Seibon hood has a gloss black painted underside that reflects light nicely and actually looks like someone took the time to paint it. The underside of the VIS hood looks like crap next to a Seibon.
4. badge: Seibon wins
The badge on the underside of the VIS hood is made from laminated plastic... it eventually cracked in half after a while. The badge on the bottom of the Seibon hood is made from brushed aluminum and is embedded with the Seibon logo. It looks much better and is much stronger.
5. clearcoat finish: too early to tell, but VIS sucked
Since I have only had my Seibon hood for two days, it is hard to say what the gelcoat will do after a while. However, the gel coat on the VIS hood turned yellow after a period of time less than one year, and eventually wore completely down to the weave. I hope that the Seibon hood doesn't do this, but I don't expect it to. The VIS gelcoat sucked... time will tell if the Seibon gel coat will or not.

The fitment between the two is pretty close... they're both pretty accurate
I'm not sure if it is just in my mind or not, but it seems like the Seibon hood is a little bit lighter than the VIS

Seibon fits better. I had a VIS OEM style hood and the fitment was so terrible that when I installed it and showed my friend he's like.."is your hood open?"
Seibon fits like OEM.
Nice review DirtySouth!
Conclusion:
Seibon =
VIS =
