Default Honda's Rated HP For the Lude

Ok, we all know that Honda rated the Prelude at 200hp, but we all know most people usually only get about 160whp when they dyno, so a 40hp loss is unlikely. The only way I could see Honda getting 200hp out of the Lude is in 0 degree temperatures. I thought of this when driving home, its getting warmer out, and I can tell that when it was 32degree's out, my Lude had some more get up and go than it does now. So if you dynoed your Lude in 0 degree temps, maybe you would have closer to 170whp than 160whp, a whp a little more inline with with the rated crank HP. Just a though.

I thought dealers always go by the crank HP numbers.

Auto manufacturers HP figures are rated at the flywheel. A.K.A. Brake HP.

H22Si hit the nail right on the head Car manufacturers rate HP from the FLYWHEEL. not the wheel it self (the wheel that contact the pavement that is )

and the HP gets lost trough the drivetrain, aka "drivetrain loss" Honda's typically get between 15%-20% drivetrain loss. This will also vary with different manufactureres and tranny designs (FWD, RWD, 4WD)

if the Lude has an advertised HP of 200 HP but dynos at 160 wheel HP:
200 - 160 = 40
200 * 40 = 0.20 (20%)

or the other way around.
200 * 0.15 = 30 <--- 0.15 is 15% drivetrain loss
200 - 30 = 170 wheel HP

so dont think that the GSR will have more HP than the Lude, causee you are comparing the GSR's flywheel HP to the Ludes actual wheel HP

Lude = 160 wheel HP

GSR 170 HP
170 * 0.15 = 25.5
170 - 25.5 = 144.5 wheel HP <--GSR

EDIT: and 160 wheel HP for the Lude is a stock dyno, some boltons will raise the HP from 160 to 175 HP.
