This is a stupid question but what the hell are ringlands? I hear thats what needs to be replaced in a turbo h22. thx

 

The grooves around the circumference of the piston near the top that the piston rings sit inside. They are basically the thinnest material on the piston and hence the weak spot.....too much pressure from boost and they crack or break and you loose compression and your block gets a facelift.

 

Here's some visual aid. The ring below where the one I am holding came off is cracked also.
