shame on the cops...
as a few of you know i got a "modified exhaust-vc27151" ticket last month...
officer said exhaust was "way too loud"(jun)---i agreed...
since i have put resonators on to quiet it down.
yesterday i crank up the car and take off the JUN and put the stock exhaust back on to go get it "signed off" by the chp...
i call the court to find out why i didn't get a notice in the mail...she said we are too busy and don't have time...fine....she then takes my citation # and says
"$77 please", i say can't i "correct/fix-it" for $10?
she say LAPD don't do that anymore---you pay $77 and that is it.
do i need to show anyone the fixed exhaust?----she said "nope, YOU ARE DONE citation is closed BUT if you get more tix the fines keep increasing"
...and their motto is "to protect and to serve"?
sorry just thought it seems a little silly

Koy, you should ask the cop when did they change this law.. Did this happened near where you live? This is definitely something new for me too. It's been awhile since I got a "fiXXX it" but what's the point of a fix it ticket if you just pay a fine? I think you talked to a rookie cop. Ask again if I were you.

randy--the cop DID mark "yes" correctable...but the lady at the court processing center told me "no"...something like the CHP might allow it but not the LAPD.
this is a BS ticket anyway, they have no decibel meters out there to gauge crap.
the cop when writing the ticket even said my suspension looks modified---something about it possibly breaking...
i now carry a decibel meter borrowed from work to teach them the LAW next time.

Acutally this way makes sense... if you want to keep it, then you get caught, you pay for it. (granted you actually WERE too loud)

Yeah, I would give CHP a try. It's a BS ticket no doubt.
Chris, for many, once you have to go through the trouble of removing it, they don't want to deal with the extra effort or money to put it back. But I for one will pay the the fine if I still get to keep my parts on the car since this was my intention at the beginning (keep the part) and I've always take a "fix it" ticket into consideration when I mod my car. It's actually cheaper at $70 in Koy's case then to pay $50 to have the catback remove, pay the $10 inspectino fee and another $50 to put it back. Unless you can do it yourself of course, but again, refer back to my saying, it's a pain in the *** to swap out exhaust/header without a hoist.
Just imagine you get pulled over and cited a fix it ticket for JDM front end (for whatever reason there might be). That will be a pain to have the original front put back and get it inspected. I would love to just pay whatever fine (which won't be that much I'm sure) then to hve it inspected.

someone answer me this, how can a car with a muffler and most times at cat. get pulled over for being "too loud", when the damn harley's pass me w/ straight pipes.

maybe because some police bikes are harleys...
maybe because the cops have them for their own joy rides...
all i know is two guys here at work have them with "no cats" loud as hell...and not one ticket in the last 10+ years of riding
It's all a bunch of BULLSHIT. Like mentioned above, because Harleys are an Amercian icon. They are definitely louder than our modified Honda/Acura cars. IMO most of them sound like **** too. Besides loud, they are annoying and make everthing fockin vibrate. Anyways, that's just the way it is.. Sometimes can't do anything about it..
I was pulled over recently by CHP regarding speeding and modified exhaust. He said he was just gonna give me a modified exhaust ticket (I wasn't gonna aruge even though I know it's BS). He told me I had a choice, either correctable or non correctable. If correctable, he'd write me up so, it's about 10 bucks, and get it fixed. If it's non correctable it was a 70-80 dollar fine, he wasn't sure, and leave it like it is. I said gimmie that 10 dollar sum-a-ma-bitch!
I found it interesting. It's almost like a noise ordinance (stereo too loud) ticket now. I don't understand...

I think it's because motorcycles are not under California's emission law and everyone knows they come stock like that.

That suxors Koy.
How was that "loud" to the popo?
were you like idling or kinda t WOT?
How about we all meet up in front of a police station with our modified exhausts, circle the popo station, then we rev the fawk out of them like the crazy JDM bosozoku's in Tokyo?
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
"VROOM VROMVROMVORMVORVM VROOMOMVROVOOOOOOOOOM!"

i drive to work this morning and behind me is a brownish 4 door civic.
I am at a stop light getting ready to make a left.
As I am listening to my Cd's in the car, all of the sudden:
*BOOM... Ba boom boom.. booom BOOM...*
*BOOM... Ba boom boom.. booom BOOM...*
*BOOM... Ba boom boom.. booom BOOM...*
I look in the rear view and it's like MY car is making that booming sound. the vibrations could be felt in MY car but it's the Bass Peeps behind me
!
Did they lose their hearing that they have to play it that loud?
doesn't that hurt their hearing? hello? (hrm.. proly can't hear).
Anyway, light turns green, i see a clear path, and I VTEC the fugg away from
them boomers.
-Aoib0t, who saw a spec of the civic after a couple of seconds. (herro? where's that spec now?)

for all socal peeps: i have a decibel meter handy if you unfortunately get "served"
i would have fought it but didn't want them lurking towards the engine
i would have fought it but didn't want them lurking towards the engine
They probably bump it so loud because they are already deaf. Reminds me of the story where a high school student heard his brakes screaching and just turned his music up. After awhile he found out that he completely wore out the brake pads and almost went through the rotor.
how much are they?
I would love to see the popo's faces when I break out the decibal meter
MUAHAHAHHAAHAHA

Legislation to Provide For Exhaust Noise Testing Program to be Heard in California Senate
SEMA-sponsored legislation (S.B. 1420) to provide for an exhaust noise-testing program will be considered in the California Senate Transportation Committee on April 25, 2002. The bill will be amended in committee to allow exhaust noise tests to be conducted at test-only smog check stations. Car owners would be issued a certificate of compliance if a test of the exhaust system demonstrated that the exhaust system emitted no more than 95-decibels.
We Urge You to Contact Your State Senators Immediately to Support S.B. 1420
· S.B. 1420 would provide motorists who drive vehicles legally equipped with modified exhaust systems the ability to prove that they comply with the law. Overwhelming evidence shows that many of these citations are being written in absence of any violation of the code.
· S.B. 1420 would remedy the enforcement policy currently used by police officers in which exhaust noise citations are prosecuted solely based on the officer's subjective judgment.
· S.B. 1420 would force compliance with an objectively measured standard. Under the standard, exhaust noise could not exceed a sound reading of 95-decibels in a fair and predictable test.
· S.B. 1420 would benefit consumers, the aftermarket industry and police officers who are charged with enforcing the law.
