Helms Service Manual says 10 ft lbs

104 inch lbs = 8.667 ft lbs

well i'm curious why the acura tech would tell me such a far off answer...this is my 2nd one because the first one split in half the first time i got on it (******* advanced autoparts ****) this is a honda one but i only torqued the last one down to 50ish inch lbs and it still split like a bitch.

the acura tech told you 16in/lbs because the service manual is wrong on the 10ft/lbs spec. (or atleast i think so and probably all other acura/honda techs)

everytime i try to torque a oil pan to 10ft/lbs like the book says it totally kills the gasket......its impossible that the correct spec is 10ft/lbs....there is no way

i like to use 30-40in/lbs and that seems to work perfectly.

10ft/lbs is wrong! It is 8.7-9.0 ft/lbs.
I am going to guess you are 2 stepping the torque process????

i go around to each bolt hand tight, then go back around and tighten each bolt until i see the gasket start to compress...always works and never had a problem/leak

I torque them like valve cover nuts... just hand tight with 1/4" ratchet - just until they bottom out.
