battery relocation: do i still use "stock" gound location?
ok i've been havin trouble getting my car runnin and i believe it could have somethin to do with my grounds.....the battery was relocated to the rear(crx) by the previous owner, so i wanna re-do it myself (so i know it's done right). well i've been reading up on battery re-locations (i searched) and have heard mixed replies as to where the neg. ground should be? some say the ground wire should be no more than 3ft long....while others say you still need to run the ground all the way back to the original ground spot (because of somethin to do with the starter?)? does anyone have a deffinate answer?? or any kind of input before i go out and buy more (or maybe not enough) wire than i need. also what size do you suggest?? (i was think 2 ga. the whole way)
yep in the back. thats where mine is. i have it grounded where the spare tire used to be. 2ga should be just fine, i think thats what i used too. and 0ga for the positive.

I don't know the proper name but, where the spare bolts in, right there, use that little bolt to ground your battery.

You SHOULD NOT take the ground all the way to the front!

You SHOULD NOT take the ground all the way to the front!

you want the ground to be as short as possible. you also want the fuse in the power line to be as close to the battery as possible (within a foot!).
use 2ga cable for everything. i know some people have other opinions, but i've done the math and it's posted around here somewhere, so i'm not going to debate it.

I was planning to run the battery in the back of my CRX and bought about 5 metres of 4 gauge wire. Is this not enough?
(the 4ga is a lot thicker that the standard OEM cables)
can you please elaborate on why you ran 2guage? (i'm guessing you calculated the voltage drop / resistance over a 4 metre span?)

but to answer directly-
yes, it's because i did the math.
yes, you want 2ga. power and ground. 4ga up front after a distribution block to the starter and alternator.
10ft should do a crx for the run up front.
100A breaker or fuse on the power wire within a foot of the battery.
ground in the back and keep it as short as possible.
you need to ground to clean metal. a grounding block looks nice. dielectric grease can help with corrosion.
