BeaveRun June 10,11 '06 Roll Call?
Ill be there in HPDE2, think its kinda funny that theyre only giving HPDE1 assigned instructors, and HPDE2 they define- " HDPE 2 Novice- Group 1 graduates that would like more seat time in Group 1 w/o an instructor. Passing on main straights only"

DE is full? *Sigh* OH/IN guys need to take a few pointers from the MA-region organizers. Evan, you know why HPDE2 is NOT provided an instructor? Just plain seems silly to me. Blair, if you do show up I'll make sure to swing by. And though I'm not sure if it's allowed, I'd be happy to ride with you for a session if you need any pointers

Seems a lot worse than silly to me.
I found out today when RJ forwarded me the event supps. Its just how they run things in that region I guess. A region I havent heard many good things about, so I guess things arent really changing for the better either.

Can't wait to watch you roll me, Markus
And Evan, last year Group 2 DID have instructors. I was hoping the new director or whatever would improve things, but...

Its on the event supps.....
HDPE 1 Beginner- Instructor assigned, passing on main straights only. NOTE:
GROUP 2 = GROUP 1 but without instructors assigned.
HDPE 2 Novice- Group 1 graduates that would like more seat time in Group 1 w/o an instructor. Passing on main straights only.
HDPE 3 Intermediate- Passing areas more liberal and increasing as day progresses.
HPDE 4 Advanced- Passing allowed anywhere using caution
Time Trial Advanced- Passing allowed anywhere using caution - Compete for fastest lap times!!
So these students, signed up for group 2, are getting shafted....
And they were charging a $50 late fee that went into effect ONE MONTH before the event started.
With all the heat the region got in the past, and thier 3 way cluster split start at the last event you would think they would cant the "progressive thinking" and just run a good event. NASA-MA does that just fine, and I enjoy it.

I missed the $50 late fee though... I might've even got hit by that
This is just too much, no more OH/IN after this, Beaver will have to be run with PCA or something.

if you read those supps more closely, its actually HPDE1 students that are solo without instructors. Group 2 is a subset of HPDE1, in addition to HPDE2 not getting instructors either.
btw, Audi Club has a beaver date (At least they used to).
that would be a good alternate event if you want to lap some beaver

Ok, apparantly they got some sort of message, as I just recieved the corrected definitions.
Dave, the regional director said the instructor fee was included in what I paid, and instructors were available. Im for sure not paying the 295 for instruction to not get any. I mean, were out with group 1 anyways. By no means am I ready for group 3, so I guess ill just hope for the best with getting a good instructor.
HDPE 1 Beginner- Instructor assigned, passing on main straights only. NOTE: GROUP 2 = GROUP 1 but without instructors assigned.
I assume that means that anyone in group 2 wanting an instructor is provided one. I dont see myself advancing to group 3 if I have noone to correct me, and tell me what I need to improve.

Well it's not all THAT different from NASA-MA.. each chapter has 3 HPDE groups you can run in as a HPDE driver.
NASA-MA has
HPDE 1 - students with instructors
HPDE 2 - students with instructors (optional) more advanced pace than grp 1.
HPDE 3 - solo, no instructors in car, passing is more open.
HPDE 4 - instructors only. Not really an HPDE group, just a fun grp for the instructors.
OT: Do they even let Time trails run in the MA chapter yet?? HPDE 4 is were they should be but I know they didn't run any TT in 2005
NASA-OH/IN has
HPDE 1 / 2 - students with instructors and a few who have been signed off to run solo but want to stay with the slower pace of HPDE1
HPDE 3 - solo students with more open passing rules and want a faster pace than grp 1 & 2.
HPDE 4 - solo students and time trial racers, full open passing fastest pace.
-Instructors do not get their own special run group but can run in HPDE 3 or 4 for free.
Either way it is only 3 groups if your not an instructor, it's just that instructs don't get their own run grp to themselves with OH/IN. If you're in HPDE 2 and want an instructor then you just sign up for HPDE 1 with OH/IN cuz both 1 and 2's run in the same group most of the time. I'm not saying one way is better than the other they are just different. However, they should of made it clear that if you wanted an instructor you needed to sign up for HPDE 1.
What I want to know is why it took OH/IN region till 2 days before the event to give us a schedule, and they still will not tell me if we will have tire support at the track this weekend!!
there is a big lack in communication. I guess we can give them some slack because it's all new guys running the show now. I just hope it gets better by next year.
I will be there for my 1st HC race in a H2 prelude !!!! --see everyone at the track!

Heh don't be so sure about that, I might be "half assing" this one. I can probably get 2 good sessions out of my Toyos, after that I'll be hanging out and crewing for my friends.
What kind of car do you drive? Come by and say hello again...

Woohoo! Can't wait to see how you do. I'll help you change your tires, is that good enough for trackside tire support? Might be all you get!
Sorry again I didn't make it out to Nelson a couple weeks ago when you got your license. Wedding reception + drunk wife = no early morning escape.
on me.

Instructors are absolutely NOT optional in group 2 with NASA-Va. That is completely up to the discretion of the event registrar/organizer and it is done by exception, not the rule!!!!
I have been instructing with nasa-va for 3 years and I have never heard that. If my group 2 student told me that he didnt want his instructor I think I'd just steal his track pass for the next session and walk away.

Actually, if anyone was charged the late fee for registering online it *should* be refunded as the only late registraion fees will be for at the track registration. As long as you register online there will not be a late fee, it has been this way w/ our other 2 event this year as well.
As an aside, all of the event registraion pages were set up by the past region management and only a few parts have been edited. The late fee 1 month ahead of time just didn't get changed.
Sorry for the confusion,
Sam

Markus, I'll be in a white '92 hatchback, #102. And yes, NASA-MA sticks all HPDE2 students with an instructor until they're signed off for that weekend specifically. If you're ready to roll all the time without an instructor, time for HPDE3.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 577HondaPrelude »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I will be there for my 1st HC race in a H2 prelude !!!! --see everyone at the track!</TD></TR></TABLE>
Good luck Walt!
Mark and I were supposed to be there but we were not selected as Primary instructors, so we would've had to pay and then get a refund if they found students for us.
Here's my question. If having an instructor show up doesn't cost NASA OH/IN anymore than not having them show up. Why not let them run for free and have extra instructors. UNLESS it's because they have a full TT HPDE4 session and not letting them run add's room for paying TT drivers.
