H2 ITR: How fast at the end of one mile?
There's a speed trial event in Laurinburg NC on June 24. Course is one mile long.
How fast will the Rat go through the traps? 4.9 FD 225/50s. It goes about 138 down VIR's back stretch. Think it'll top out at 145 in a mile?
Hmmm.

I changed my mind. You won't break 140. I'll say 135mph tops.
Open windows and fat, road race rubber are gonna hurt you. I'd guess the 138 you got before was determined mathematically and that there was a slight error in the math due to RPM or tire circumference. I'd love to be wrong, though.
141.824mph is the G/production record at El Mirage. That was set with a closed car and a fully built ITR motor on a 1.3 mile course. (Same car went 153 at Bonneville, but that's THREE miles and a very slow moving tach!) You'll have better traction, but worse aero. Should be interesting.
Have fun, and please DO tell us about the experience...

We posted at the same time and I missed that...
All bets are off with the factory speed-o. They usually run fast. And VERY fast near the top. What RPM did you see at the end of the straight? 8000rpm with a USDM ITR gearbox, a 4.9 FD and 225/50-15s is 136.7mph. That's using a generic tire diameter. (Your circumference may vary.)
8000 RPM is pretty far out there in top gear...
This just in: here's the current record at Maxton for a 2-liter car with vaguely the same level of prep at an H2 car...

My guess is 138.
I don't see why you couldn't hit the max over a mile's worth of distance. I hit it at Lowes, but that was with 225/45 Hoosiers. (Damn how I miss racing there.) Indicated, I think the speedo read 148. Obviously, this isn't possible with a 4.9 which is what I had.

I can't go. We're having my 4 year-old's birthday party on 6-24 and leaving for the beach on 6-25.
Too bad, my ITR could easily beat the existing under 2.0 liter speed. It would be fun to roll it off the trailer and do a pass in road race trim, then put my side windows in, remove the side mirrors, and rear wing, tape up the brake ducts & bodywork gaps, lower it 1" and make another run. I'll bet it would do 138 - 140.
Jason or Chad, you guys need to go do this!

nope top speed according to gear calculators not taking in the effect of tires ballooning at those speeds is 152!
and in 1 mile i'm positive my car would do that!

maybe...
but it won't be the fastest tin top there....

The standing mile record for the East Coast Timing Association (ECTA) was set by Winston Churchill at 201.82 mph through the mufflers and 22 gallons of gas on board. Previous record was mid 170's. Record was set May 20, 2006 in Maxton, NC.
the great thing is... that Vette has been to Summit/Watkins/VIR

are you questioning the accuracy of GPS?
Or are you saying you could do it with a stopwatch? The stopwatch will only give you average mph, and I was assuming they wanted instant feedback on the speed. Im sure there will be radar guns used for reference.

Take it to Maxton and silence the naysayers!
I'm pretty sure this event measures speed through a short 'trap' right at the end of the mile. I hate I can't go because I'm pretty sure the ITR would do well in the sub-2.0 liter N/A "G" class.

yes... a timed event will be much better than GPS.
