Throttle cable/pedal issues, 1990 Civic Si
1990 Civic Si Hatch
b18a1 swap (but the motor probably is irrelevant for this problem)
Hey guys, I am having trouble with my throttle cable and/or accelerator pedal. What happens is the pedal likes to get stuck when it is in its normal position. I will go to press down on it, and it won't budge until i really put some weight on it. Once I break it loose, it works okay. Sometimes it is really stubborn, and other times it is only a little stuck. At redlights, it is usually only a little bit stuck. In the morning when I go to drive it after it has sat for several hours, it is very stuck.
I had this problem before we swapped in the new motor. Before the swap, the original throttle cable (which worked fine), was damaged when i was trying to remove the alternator (long story). After replacing this cable with a new unit from honda, it never acted right, just like what I describe above.
When we swapped in the new motor, we used the 1990 integra cable. Same problem. There is a new symptom, however. I will be pressing down the accelerator, and while it is opening the throttle a little bit, it is not doing it enough for the amount of pedal i have pressed down. This happens every now and then.
I suspect I am missing a piece or something is damaged in my pedal assembly, or maybe where the cable comes through the firewall. It has never looked right to me (even with the D series cable), because it does not snap in flush with the firewall. I can see daylight through it. Am I missing a piece? Picture is below.
I am just curious if any other EF owners have had similar problems with throttle cable or accel pedal. If so, what was the fix? Suggestions? tia

Hmm, good call. I don't recall there being a gasket there when i removed the old one the first time, but it may have fallen down and i didn't see it or something.
Yeah, I've tried twisting it and pushing it in there, but it will not budge. I don't want to get too creative with it, since its plastic. I'll get that gasket and see what happens. Lucky, I need to make a honda order for other stuff anyway!
thanks guys

Well there is a little o ring type of gasket that goes behind it when you pop and twist it back on there. It usually falls down somewhere never to be found again, and people don't worry about it. I don't have one, my friend that i helped do his b18 doesn't have one, and the gasket just keeps bugs and dirt out of the hole basically. I would check to see if you missing some kinda piece or pieces from the pedal assembly under the dash...
