Default new civic b16b owner, tunning tips needed

hi guys, i just bought a 97 civic coupe with a b16b on it, its alotta fun, vtec kicks so hard and i'm pleased, but after a week i just got bored and i need more power, my friend suggested that to use b20 block on it and will give a 220hps, i dont think its right, i'm obd2 and i dont think i can chip my ecu. so whats the best tune i can get?!

i was thinking about boosting but i guess i should use JE low compression pistons but that will leave me with a booseted b16.

any help

Sounds like you have a lot of reading up to do.

A Skunk2 manifodl will do jack **** for you. It's the same design as what you have on there. Look into an Edelbrock Victor X. It's built specifically for high RPM Power, which is what you're motor is best at.

As far as power upgrades, look into a good header and exhuast system. Prepare to spend $$. Hytech, SMSP, DTR, Toda, ect. You're going to spend $1000 for a good header alone.

If you're not looking to spend that much, check out the Sparks Racing, Rage, or High End header. I've had the Rage header before, definately a great product.

Exhaust wise, call up K-Teller and get a bolt up 2.5" exhaust for your new header.

That should be good for 20hp or so (with tuning). You're right, you can't chip your OBD-2 ECU. But you can buy a step down harness from http://www.jkobd.com and be able to run an OBD1 ECU. That will give you more options. Stay away from "Chips" that you just plug in and go. You need something that can be tuned, like Hondata. Check out the classifieds, you'll find an S200 or S100 system for around $250 if you look. Then invest another $500 or so in a good tune by a reputable tuner and you'll have yourself some power.

If that's still not enough, a valvetrain upgrade (Springs, Retainers) and a nice set of cams is next. You'll need the previous mods I just mentioned, but look into the Rocket Motorsports packages, Buddy Club (Spec III+, Spec IV) or the Skunk2 Pro Series.

good luck
