Default accord wagon project

i just got my hands on a pristine 92 accord lx 5 spd wagon.from what ive been reading they are kinda rare. i wanna swap in a h23 non vtec motor (h23a1 i believe) since the motor in it has a bad head gasket. does anyone know of a specific writeup/article on this swap? if this is all B.S. what would be the easiest swap to get this going? i have been building toyota trucks for years so id have no problem with the work if i had an article to guide me. im just new to hondas. thanks

its the h23a1 i believe. from 92-96 prelude si. 160 hp. its supposed to be the quickest swap to up power a little bit. i dont want a race car just something to save me some gas instead of driving my jacked up pickup.

Dude, the h22a from the 97-01 prelude type-sh is the best choice on an accord. hands down.

i understand the benefit of the added power, but i dont feel like wiring up the vtec, and if i have it i wont get the gas milage. (no self control) from what im seeing now the h22/h23 swap looks the same minus the vtec. im looking to do the quickest drop in short of the stock motor it came with to get this thing on the road.

Default hola!

HEHEHEHEHHEAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! FINALLY someone else out there with a 5-Speed Wagon! I thought I was alone.

I have a 91 EX-R (or EX for you yanks) Wagon with the 5 speed.

I dont know if all accord wagons (regardless of trim level) come with the F22A6, but mine sure does. It's a great motor for highway cruising, but you really feel that 500 pounds extra from the beautiful 3+ hockey bag carrying trunk when you're in the city.

Good luck with the swap. You better post picspicspics!!!

CB9's FTW!!!!

now im reading that the h23a1 and f22b are perfectly interchangeable, and both respond well to low boost levels should the need ever arise. its a pimp wagon with powerr everything amd would rule for some roadtrips this summer. the car should be home by next weekend. ill get some pics.

the power output of the engines is the same... the only benefit of the SH model is the ATTS, which would just be too much of a pain to try to get working in an Accord. I'm not aware of anyone that has succesfully accomplished that specific swap. Any H22 will do, except for the SH models. The engine blocks are also different between the SH and non-SH models. All that means is that you would have to do some modifications and fabbing to get a non-SH tranny on, but why bother if you can just get a non-SH motor? (Not that you were planning on it, but I'm trying to get my point across to the other guy.)

*On a side note, this is all in regards to USDM H22s.

i have had my 1992 lx 5 spd for nearly 10 years.
i have had an h22 in it for over 5 years now.
the only diff between the h23 swap and the h22 swap is 3 wires....that is it....its NOT hard to connect 3 wires.

if you are gonna boost id jsut build the f22a.

*Mildly Off-Topic*

Does the H23 run on Premium fuel like the H22?

'Cause I have little to no self control when I have something with some "OOMMMPH" under the hood. You don't even wanna know what my mileage was like in my old Bronco...with V6 powa!

Just wondering, so don't be hatin!

this is what im coming to find about the h22 but the price on a f22b is so cheap. i could drop this in for less than half the price and have exactly what im looking for. and as far as the boost is concerned i read the f22b would do well with a little boost too. this would be a suitable secondary project if this car grows on me at all.

Your right on the money about everything. The H23 and the F22B(DOHC JDM) are both great cheap step-ups without having to shell out all of the money for an H22. They also both are very boost friendly like you said (far morso than the H22. Swapping one in now for a cheap power gain, with the option of boosting down the road is a good plan in my opinion.

this is what im going for. i just would love to get my hands on a complete definitive writeup on this swap. i have been reading and i see that dropping the f22b/h23 motor in is a 123 job. the other info is all here, but i want to be sure i have it all before i do it. from what i see its similar to dropping a h22 in.

well you remove the old engine, bolt the new one in and attach the harness. thats about it. if you get an h23 you have to wire teh knock sensor, if you go h22 then you have to wire the knokc and vtec. if you started with an lx you also will have to wire secondary butterflies on the intake too.
