Default How to timing belt tensioner

Just want to say thaks to all those that helped me diagnose my headgasket. That's what it ened up being even though the compresion was still within spec. I'll get some pick up in my old post probably by thursday.

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question:

==How does the timing belt tensioner tension? Where do I put a wrench to 'turn' it out of tension? It seems to be locked. Is this normal? Isn't the bolt in the front middle of the tensioner for taking it on/off not applying tension/un-applying tension? Or is it? Guess I'm just not seeing it clearly right now.

the bolt on the front of the tensioner locks it in place. just loosen the bolt a little bit so the tensioner can move freely. there should be a spring that connects from the tensioner to a pin on the block (if I remember correctly). Once you have the new timing belt and water pump in (don't bitch about it just do the water pump it will save you big $$ in the long run). You turn the motor Counter clockwise 3 timing belt teeth then re-tighten the bolt to factory spec. double check the manual for the exact way of doing this. When you turn the motor CC it puts slack in the timing belt near the tensioner and lets the spring pull the tensioner in for the correct amount of tension. cool isn't it

wow I'll have to read that a few times over, great info thanks. And ya I already bought a new WP and it's ready and waiting to be assigned to my block

does 0.8 on the top of my piston mean that the motor has been bored? there are more letters but can't recall them at the moment.
