I just bought my used 97 Civic HX. It got hot the other day, so I turned my A/C on. As i kept driving, my check engine light came on, my shift lights stopped working, and my cars idle went up and down. I turned my A/C off and the idle evened out and the car runs fine. But now my check engine light is still on, and my shift lights don't work(not that I care about the shift lights) What is the deal? Anyone?

it is just over heating or something..

 

im gonna guess oxygen sensor. just a guess.

and using your a/c will make the idle fluctuate a bit

 

go with pdiggitydogg's advice, if the check engine light came on then run a ECU diagnosis

 

jump the service connector and count the blinks..longer blinks=10count (2 long blinks=20) short fast blinks=1count (2short fast blink=2)..then use the link that pdiggitydogg provided you to see what code u are throwing..
