Default custom exhaust or not

ok, now as i read through old posts i really dont get much info on exhaust besides sound clips and a few people agreeing on certain brands. i know that having a 4 cylinder engine i wont see huge gains but i want something decent for the money. so i went down to an exhaust shop and got a quote of roughly $1200 for 16 guage 2.25 inch stainless steel pipe from header into magnaflow catilytic converter all the way down to a twin tip stainless exhaust, resembling the stock one or a 2000 lude, minus the resonator. all welds no bolts expect from the header of my choice to the custom ezhaust system and 100% legal with emissions and all. i was wondering its its worth the money or should i stick with something else and get a cat or something......

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! 1200 bucks??? nah ah man. Just look around for other shops or just buy greddy (i bought megan with a lill custom work and works great)!! And i asure you that you would want an exhaust with a resonator! it will sound pretty loud without one. Whatever you choice is...good luck with it

OMFG 1200 bux for cat converter+ straight pipe+ muffler
That guy is reaming you a new butthole. You should be able to find a muffler/welding shop in your area to do that for less than $500

ya, but the shop is top rated and i guarentee the piping is much better the the pre-fabbed kits that are on the market, and do those kits utilized the factory resonator???

Get 2.5" piping, its not worth all that trouble for 2.25". And I would reccomend getting a resonator unless you want your car to sound raspy and annoying. You should be able to get all that done for around $300-$350.

Piping is piping. As long as its SS or MS you'll be fine. You can actually get custom bent piping fairly cheap from http://www.kteller.com

Dont do it, $1200 is not worth it.

If you want to go custom go to http://www.kteller.com and purchase a 2.5" stainless steel exhaust kit, that will run you $185. Dont need to weld it yourself, have a shop do it for you... prices vary, call around.

Also at kteller.com pick up a 2.5" magnaflow carsound highflow cat, $80. I would recommend a 2.5" resonator too, but it's your call, $65.

And you can also get their 2.5" stainless magnaflow dual tip muffler for $170.

There are many other mufflers to choose from though... kteller doesn't offer a very wide variety, but they do have everything you said you wanted all for about $500, plus installation which will vary.

If its anything like a custom stainless header, 1200 dollars sounds about right for an all out custom exhaust

another old thread..

For $1200 you can pick up a Mugen twin-loop... and have some cash to spare. Won't get any better.. plus you'll have JDM freaks drool in your lap.

that is hella expensive...you can get a much nicer exhaust than that for 1200...

I got a full custom exhaust with 2.5" compression-bent piping, Carsound high-flow cat and Magnaflow muffler for $600. It was all 1-piece welded, fit very well and looked great. Get a quote from another shop

im assuming from your name that you have a 5th gen. the rsr ex-mag catback is a favorite on this site for its clean look, quietness, and free flowing attributes. if you're not looking to build an all out race car then thats what i would get if i had a 5th gen. just make sure to get a can of high temp rustoleom because it is made from 404 stainless and the welds are notorious for rusting. just rattle can it with the rustoleum and you're good to go. around $550-$600, 2.36" piping.
