Default Things to do before taking in my Hatch?! Help me "wiggle" guru's!

I am putting a new tranny on my hatch, and after that I am taking her in to get a long overdue wheel balance and two new front tires. My problem is, well, here's my problem: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1651003. I just need to know what I should do before I take it in to get the wheel balance done. I don't want to get a wheel balance and it not fix my problem at all!

People have said tie rod end bushing, and rack end bushing. Great! Only problem is, how do I check if they are bad? And, how can I replace them if the are bad? <--- Keep in mind I have NO ******* IDEA where the hell they are. I tried to search, but the pics were ambiguous.

I just don't wanna waste money on a wheel balance if that's not the problem...

to check if they are bad, jack up the car and give the tire a hug, now shake it in all directions and see if there is play.

If it does wiggle, what needs to be replaced?

My gf is gonna be jealous!

If there's no play in the wheels, what's next?

If there is play in the wheels, what do I need to do to fix it?

hmmm could be steering rack. are you sure the wobble is from the tires, or is it just steering wheel play?

Well, I can feel it in the steering wheel. Like if I put my hand on the top of the wheel, it will shake like i have parkonson's. (sp?)

but still, that could be steering wheel play only. that could be coming from the steering shaft u-joint area where the screw thingy (technical term ) in there loosens up over time and causes excessive play.

Aight, I jacked the car up and took some pics.

^^^ That curved rod with a ball joint on the end is the tie rod, correct?

What's this peice of metal that goes up top:

The tie rod end goes into this little boot right?

Driver's side:

When I shook the wheel, it had no up and down play, but it did have some side to side play. It seemed like the tie rod end was moving but something inside the rubber boot stoped it. I had maybe 1/2 to 1 cm. of play before it stopped.

should it have NO play at all?!

you are correct, do tie rods first, its most common.

they arent expensive really, its a good thing to replace, those look like they've been through a war.

Well, apparently my tie rod ends are fine. I am a retard and had the steering wheel lock on. The play was just my wheels wiggling before the lock engaged.

Ugh.

After unlocking the wheels, I realized that there was no play!

Then I RUSHED over to the tire shop, got some bigger 185 tires put on (opposed to the 175 the previous owner had on), and got them balanced. It was smooth as silk all the way up to 80!

It doesn't even feel like my car anymore! lol...

I was gonna wait until after I got my new Si tranny in before getting new tires, but When I had it jacked up I pricked my hand on the steel belt coming through!!!! I guess running a 14" rim on one side and a 13" rim on the other isn't a good idea!

I immediately went to da shop after that. Now all my rims are OE and smooth as silk!

Well, it did the exact same thing before I had that wheel on it. I just got tired of it on the freeway the other day. it was da last straw.

I dunno, some Goodyear street tires. They're 185, so I was happy. I'm not too concerned about them performing cause my car is slow anyway!
