question about cable to electric speed sensor conversion
car is a 91 crx si, converted to an integra gauge cluster, and i have 2 questions-
1. how the hell do i get the old speed sensor out of there? i've been prying on it for about 2 hours, i broke the brass tube off of it prying on it but the bottom piece is still stuck in there... is there any way i could gain access to it from the hole where one of the axle shafts go? i have been prying and prying and used half a can of wd-40 but the sucker simply will not budge. there has to be a better way to get this thing out.
2. which wire is the signal wire for the vss? it came off of a 95 civic dx transmission, i'm looking at 3 wires: yellow/white, yellow/blue, and black. which one is the signal and which one is the power? i was going to tap into the ecu fuse for the power wire, and simply chassis ground the black wire. will this be ok?

From: I told you to wait in the truck in Texas, United States
I have a FSM for the 1995 civic
and looking at the schematic:
yel/blue =power
black=ground
yel/white goes to yel/blue in the speedometer
drive circuit and would appear to be the signal.
click on image and after it loads, click again for original size:

To remove the sensor:
Use compressed air and blow out any debris
from around the top of the sensor.
Soak the opening where the sensor is with PB Blaster
Twist from side to side to break the seal of the o-ring
then attempt to pull straight up..
Also: Some folks have used a screw-in type dent puller with some sucess..
Vice-grips have always worked for me with the cable-type drive..

Hope that Helps..

it's gonna be hard to get vice grips in there like that with the transmission in the car, but i will definitely give that method a try. thanks so much for your help man!
Those god damn speed sensors are a pain. Using a harsh pair of pliers, a good grip and a few strenghty yanks I got my speed sensor out of the tranny that had been sitting in there for 5-6 years (collective between 2 owners). I had to replace mine so I wasn't worried about damaging it. The previous cable was litterally rusted in there and would not come out, the cable would snap shorter and shorter instead. It was easier to replace from a scraper then to waste my time trying to fix my own.
