Default Please help! 3 days before I leave for Expo, ITR tranny is clicking after Jdm Final drive Install!

Just installed my jdm 4.7 final drive in my tranny for my trip to Expo. Started car up to hear a loud clicking. Sounds almost like a rod knock. It is coming from the tranny. I just replaced clutch and flywheel also. The input shaft is not bound up and spins freely. I just pullled it from the car and opened it up to find everything looking just fine. Noise goes away when you push clutch pedal in and all gears shift smooth. Dont want to drive it this way.

Please help, only 3 days till I leave for Expo and need her fixed!!

Any ideas??? I am stumped, searched all over with no results

I thought so too, but I just installed a brand new act clutch kit and JUN flywheel

The noise takes about 2-3 seconds to go away like the internals of the tranny are slowing to a stop and it clicks/knocks till it stops turning after I press the clutch pedal in

my older civic did the same thing.

It went years with no problems.

My itr kinda does the same thing, just not as much of a pronounced "ticking" like yours

I would also guess throwout bearing if you didn't just replace it.

hmmmm

Yes, the throw out bearing was replaced with new clutch. This is a loud click/knock. It sounds alot like a rod knock. I did the screw driver to ear test and it sounds like its in the bell housing. My wife could hear it from the house and we have a detached 24x24 shop 50 ft away. I would really like to rock this FD at Expo......

Headin off to work

did you measure and use the proper shims as described in the Helm manual? whenever you swap shafts or the diff, or swap everything into a new case, you should check the shims/clearances.

That sounds like the input shaft bearing. If you have the tranny open just go ahead and replace it as well as the rubber seal behind it. How many miles do you have on the tranny?

could be your differential shimming clearance. i found this out after installing, disassembling, and reinstalling my trans 9 times. biggest pain in the *** as far as transmission work.

if all the gears look clean, and no sign of chipping, and all bearings move freely and no chips on bearings, and if your clutch arm is also correctly put in and all gears shift freely by hand. and when you put the trans back together and all snap rings actually snap in, and if you correctly torque the shaft nut, then the only other thing i can think of is the shims for the differential. ????

ITR-2001 just started having that problem too. They're gonna pull the tranny out to inspect it. I'll post more info or have him post what they find.

Problem found!!!

Jdm final drive first gear had 2 teeth(main syn gear) that were hit/gouged over very lightly causing slight binding when it came in contact with the input shaft. Took my snap-on da sander with 120 grit pad and slowly deburred it and is as good as new.

See ya at Expo
