My all-motor history/rebuild thread :::EF y0::: (56k killa!)
Since I've been documenting this build up on my local automotive forum (roclife.org), I decided to let honda-tech know what I've been up to for the past few years, and what I'll hopefully be turning into a 12-second daily driven cone killer. I suppose I might as well start at the beginning.
I bought my EF (1990 civic DX hatchback) back in 2002 when it was bone stock with 101,xxx miles on it. Paid 1600 bucks to some dealership in Maryland....it was rust-free and ran great.
At that time, I was 17 years old and working part-time at McDonalds, so money wasn't exactly plentiful. But I had my heart set on swapping a b16 into my car, so I saved every penny I made for about eight months and scrounged up all the parts necessary for the swap. And by the time the snow melted in the spring of 2003, I was driving my VTEC hatch YO! I thought it was so fast....lol. It ended up running a best of 14.9 on a slipping clutch.
Anyway, some pics from back then (it's the blue one)...

So it didn't take me long to get bored with this setup, so around June of 2004, I had my new motor in and running. It was a b17 with CTR pistons and an ITR head, CTR cams, etc. Not a bad motor, and quite quick compared to the stock b16.
Some pics of that motor sitting in its bay (slightly cleaner this time around too)...

And the car nice and shiny, Spring of 2004....

You might notice that the exterior hasn't changed one bit. Sorry, I've never been huge on making my car look cool.
So I drove around on this, went through some ups and downs, and after two seasons I decided it was time to move on up once again.
One last photo of the exterior/engine from the summer of 2005:

NOW TO THE PRESENT.
Here's the car as of 2/11/06:

Transporting the necessary parts from my dad's shop to my apartment the old fashioned way.

And my storage space after all was said and done:
-3 short blocks
-2 heads
-1 tranny
-1 header
-1 exhaust
-random other parts

And that's pretty much where the car stands at the moment. This past semester I went to school full-time and worked full-time (I live on my own, pay my own bills), so it's been tough to actually get work done on the car. BUT I've been buying parts all winter, so I'll just post the basic setup and pics of parts, cus that's all I can really do at the moment.
the jist of the setup:
-200whp goal
-stock b18a bottom end, P30 pistons (standard bore)
-PR3 head w/ p&p, 3 angle valve job
-port-matched skunk2 IM, max-bored GS-R TB
-RM valvesprings, retainers, ITR valves, BC spec 4 cams
-RMF narrow header, custom 2.5 in. exhaust
-7.5 lb. flywheel, ys1 (b17) tranny w/ ITR LSD
-converting to obd1, running chipped P72 (chrome)
And pics my money pit....I'm sure you can figure out what's what for the most part....

All I'm waiting on right now is my header and I still need to buy a few other little things. Now that the main semester is over, I can get started actually tearing down the old engine and piecing together the new (with the help of some friends, of course
). I'm still taking a summer course and working full-time, so yeah, it's not going to be an over-night endeavor, but it'll get done.
Also, the car leaves for paint tomorrow (did I mention it's getting a low-budget paint job?).
<(no more black bumpers, oh noes!)
It's going to be a super-secret shade of dark green.
That's about it. I've gone from the stock 1.5 to a 1.6, a 1.7, and this year a 1.8. If you've read this far, I applaud you.
I'll have some updated pics of the car tomorrow before it leaves for paint, and will continue to update this thread as I progress. Comments and criticism are welcome.
Sorry for the boring thread.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.
Being the retard that I am, I forgot to bring my camera yesterday to take final shots of the civic before its makeover. Oh well....
But a special delivery came in from Buffalo.
I'll be running these in the front (on the street/autox course):

And last year's azenises, which are in decent shape (they're just dirty) will be on the rear:

Yes, I will be running 14" wheels. Last year I ran 14's with azenis sports on my beater EG, and I was convinced....I loved them. So I'm setting up a trade plus cash deal with a buddy of mine. My c10's plus cash for these pimp-*** 14" slipstream look-alikes (sorry for the shitty pic):

So that'll be my wheel/tire combo. Again, these are not "show" wheels....too bad if some think they're ugly. They'll out perform the old setup, and that's all that really matters to me. Plus I like the looks of them.
22 in. slicks will come soon enough, once the car is actually together, running, tuned, etc.
I should have some progess pics of the paint sometime later today.
