here's my problem. i am in the process of installing my cams, already have the cam caps and holders in and torqued, but when i try to line up the timing marks on the cam gears, the intake cam rotates a little bit making it one tooth off.

 

work all the slack in the belt to the tensioner and have some one pull the tensioner down on the bottom
if you have the teeth set on the top the cam wont move and slip the belt on over the exhaust cam
I just did this and had the same problem but it was with the crank.....

 

im having this problem with the timing belt off. just cant get the marks to line up, it just keeps backing up a tooth, like its binding or something.

 

its going to because at TDC the intake valves are starting to open i had my dad hold the cam with a ratchet while me and a friend put the belt on

 

look for dowel holes in cam to put something in to hold it still. between the lobes

 

alright that makes sense, just as long as theres no binding goin on there. thanks
