GT1 to ITB...
Next weekend I am going to be racing a 1985 CRX in ITB.
I can't wait, should be fun, and ALOT different than what I normally run, its beena while since I have been in an IT car, and I have only actually raced IT once in an ITA 240sx.
I hear race CRXs are tail happy?
I normally run a 600hp GT1 Corvette, so this is almost as far away from that as you can get I think.
Any advice?

What tail?
Don't brake, umm, ever..... really.

Yup, don't brake! This should help your efforts when you next race the vette. Momentum, momentum, and guess what? You'll have a blast but will learn something (good or bad) about how you drive.
Give us a post race report.
Give us a post race report.
What I am looking forward to gaining experience in is actually racing closely.
With the big cars there are usually fewer of them, and the level of prep and the speed of the cars can be quite different.
I know with this ITB CRX, I will be deep in the middle of it, and everything will be closely matched, so that will be cool.
I can't wait. I will def have a race recap...

Yeah, don't lift. And if the rear steps out a little too much, floor it. (Might be a bit counter-intuitive, but it'll grow on you.)
You MUST write us a detailed report from the push-rod perspective. You owe it to us for allowing you to hang out here
Have fun.

Lol,
I do have a lot of FWD experience, been tracking and doing Solo I, II with various Honda's for almost 10 years. Everyone keeps warning me about CRX's though, I have Auto-x'd them and they are certainly tailhappy there, should be interesting!

I have a CRX and love the car. Yeah they are a little tail happy and my 88 CRX rotates a lot. From turn in to apex it is pretty much whatever you have done well you are stuck with it. Don't lift!! Trail braking can be tricky if needed. The car is very lively and it is a blast to drive. Yep you will be in close quarters in ITB. Have fun.

How is the CRX you are going to pilot set up? Front torsion bar diameter? Rear spring weight? Rear sway bar? Shocks?
I race an '87 CRX in ITB in the SEDiv, and it is IMHO the ITB "car to have" right now.
The car can be very "prone to changing directions" especially on cold Hoosiers! Very neutral part to full throttle, with major oversteer if trail braked. Rotates nicely off throttle - quick but controllable. Very "tossable." I won't put it on the track now without new or nearly-new tires as it needs all the grip possible to stay pointed where you want it to go.
My car has 29mm t-bars in front -as stiff as they can be had - and 600 lb rear springs with a 3/4" rear sway bar. Shocks are Koni double adjustable race shocks front and rear, and it rides on 215/50-13 Kumhos.
You're going to like the light weight of these cars, although you're gonna be down about 500 HP!

I have no idea about the setup on the car at all, thursday I am heading down to check it out.
I will be running against the VW that won the ARRC in ITB in 2004, ITB here is a big (realative..) and sorted class. This CRX has been for sale for a couple years and just recently came out in the hands of a new owner. BTW, he spun it on his first lap in the car! LOL.
We will be running fairly new Hoosiers (205/55/14).
I am really looking forward to it, its going to be ALOT different than my usual ride, you are sure right about weight, I think its in the 2000lb range, where my car is 2600, but with the massive fuel cell full, and me in it its 3000lbs. We qualify with the car at about 2800lbs.

If you're running '14's you're really gonna need a 4.93 FD in that car or you're gonna be dogmeat. The 4.40 stock Si FD is somewhat OK if you're running 225/45-13 Hoosiers (20.7 inches tall IIRC) but the hot ticket IMO is a 4.93 w/ 215/50-13 Kumhos - just the right height for perfect gearing at most of the tracks I run. The 225/45 Hoosier is borderline legal on 25mm offset wheels on a "white powder test" but a little too short with the 4.93 - I ran out of revs on the long straights.
The Kumhos fit just perfectly width-wise, and are just the right height that I'm just touching the rev-limiter in 5th at the end of the long straights, but not riding it.

I say if you're gonna do something, DO IT RIGHT! And if you're gonna throw away a race, don't just drive off and get stuck, drive off at 90 mph and get stuck on top of a BIG SAND HILL!
Sucks. I had that race. After Leira went off it was mine to lose. Pitts ended up winning, and although he did pick up some speed over the Saturday race, I was almost 3 seconds a lap faster than him. I had it in the bag, man..... :shakes head:

I have no idea what FD the car has, I actually know zero about it.
It has been fast in the past running ITA with the 205/55/14 combo, so perhaps he has the proper FD?
The track is quite small 1.7 mile, quite techy with lots of elevation change.

I did my first laps in practice today in the ITB CRX, fun car, I ran today on tires that were old, 3 year old RA1's. Its needs shocks too. Bad. It basically sat for 3 years until a friend bought it 3 weeks ago.
It doesn't like to be off throttle, at all, the shocks are kinda burnt, add a different challenge to the car, have to be very smooth. Its not nearly as twichy as I thought it would be from descriptions I have heard, its a bit tricky on cold tires, but thats nothing I wouldn't expect. I may be still over driving it a bit at this point, my better laps were ones I wasn't throwing the thing around. It kinda feels like a toy compared to the GT1 car, kinda like a kart almost, I am getting to grips with it though, I only got about 15 laps in it, tomorrow should be better.
Can't wait until tomorrow, my laps today on old tires were right in there with the rest of the ITB guys, so tomorrow on fresh tires it should be alot better, gonna be fun fun fun!
