Default Is my timing retarded? (pic)

Keep in mind this is taken from the valve cover side, so the firewall is to your right, it looks like the previous owner marked it and retarded the timing a degree or two. If it is retarded should I advance it back? Running I/H/E, Pulleys, and premium fuel.

Just advance it to 18 degrees. Thats what most people do, just keep the 93 fuel in there just to be safe.

that actually looks more advanced, there's no way to be certain w/out a timing gun.

LOL! Tweakmeister...you nerd!

Jesse H:
I would have said that too just looking at it quickly, but the picture is taken a little offset from the left side of the distributor...so it might just look that way.

You need to use a timing light to know what your timing is at. You can't just look at the distributor and make a guess.

Well wouldnt you think from the 2 marks on it and the fact that the distributor is turned away from the firewall that it may be retarded? Anyway, I'll go have a shop put a light on it quick tomorrow. Think I'd be safe at 19 degrees or is that pushing it?
