short shifter install = play in the shifter now
I installed my skunk2 short shifter today and now if its in any gear, I can move the shifter around side to side and it'll stay in gear.
Anyone know what I did wrong?
Its really annoying.

It's fine.
I'll raise the car up tomorrow and check everything, I'm am just too tired to try this again.

did you install it with a spacer? did you tighten everything up?
i have a dc sports ss and it was like that too, all i had to do was tighten the bolt that connects the shifter to the linkage and all the play was gone.

Yes, I used these rubber washers. I had like 8 or so of them.
Is that the bolt where the bottom of the shifter to the stabilizer bar? i dunnow hat you mean by the linkage?

yes. i am talking about the long bolt that attaches the shifter to the black shift linkage.

the rubber washers are may also be a problem. remember that those rubber washers are right above the hot *** exhaust pipe, so they will probably get pretty mushy as they heat up.
also check the bushing that connects the stabilizer bar to see if it is loose. it is connected by two bolts. i installed some energy suspension bushings when i did this and they really made a huge difference in stiffening up the shifter and making the shifts feel much more crisp and precise.
i used some regular metal washers to take up the space instead and then i tightened the bolt down. the first time it was not tight enough and i had alot of side to side play in gear and it felt very loose and sloppy. i then had to retighten the nut/bolt on the shifter/linkage and i have virtually no play in my shifter. you have to tighten it, then get up and move the shifter around to see how tight/loose it is. you have to get it just right. good luck.
Well, I had a no name shifter on before, with the same rubber washers and it was fine. The washers were in new condition still when I installed the skunk2 today.
I also installed the energy suspension bushing, to replace the stock.
