Default Y-49 Restoration, Project CLEAN.

Here's my baby in better days...

Since then, she's been mauled by a deer, attacked by rust, and seen much wear and tear.

I've been trying to hold off and restore this car AFTER college, when time and money are more available. However, my transmission just bit the dust.

Operation CLEAN is underway..

We removed the engine a few days ago. I'll be putting in a B16, not sure which tranny (someone make a suggestion) with LSD. I'll go all out with performance mods later on down the line, just trying to make her as clean as possible right now.

Rust

The body is being taken care of later. Hoping to get it painted by the end of July. Screw that rust though..what the hell.

I have more and more new parts coming in every day! All new trim pieces = $$$$ but its so going to be worth it in the end.

Here is the bay as of today. I washed her down nice and removed as much as I can. I don't feel safe manipulating fuel and brake lines.

I'm trying to get the engine bay ready for a paint job by the end of the week.
I plan on hiding the front light / etc wiring harnesses by running them along the outside of the bay, inside the fenders. I do not feel competent enough to move the fuse box into the glove box. (someone help! )

Can anyone suggest some other simple mods or upgrades I could do while the engine bay is in this state?

Stay tuned for more news

out of all the mods your doing, please make a CAR ALARM your priority. But good luck with your project.....yea rust sucks, especially bubbly one too.

Car alarm will come soon. I have a couple interesting ideas for kill switchs as well.

I was considering sanding down and putting body filler over all these filler lines to smooth things up a bit before paint. Is it safe to do this?

Dude for the b16. Nothing will work better then the cable Ys1. i have been fortunate enough to have 2 of them. One being the gsr and being the ls. Make sure it has the gsr ratios.
Oh and btw i'm bummed i don't have a y-49 so you have one up on my rio red.

I love the yellow, and I'm so excited to get it painted. It's going to have quite a few layers of clear, so it will look amazing. I'm going to get the underside of the hood painted glossy black. I think it will look good, as it's mirroring all the black in the bay.

why not just put a mirror under the hood. Lo-lo style. That way save paint and your car's motor can see itself humping the road. HAHAHA. Sweet. Check the sig. you'll see what i went from....

bondo=no
Reweld=

Good sandpaper...patience...walk away and then walk back and see the first "ugly that catches your eye and fix it.
Battery relocation will open your chasis up a bunch.
Wire tuck looks good, but you gotta make sure you pay attention to detail and don't mix wires.
never underestimate the power of criticism...constructive ones anyway.

i also got a y-49 and i was thinking of repainting it the same color....as my front of the car meaning hood, fenders is faded but the rest of the body is still bright yellow. but i aslo just got hit on the driver side door....and i have to bondo it...i tried 3 different shops and they all said the dent can't be pulled out perfect. ...i'm deciding whether to paint it or not.

good looking project...post some pics up when u get it all done...all my friends laugh at me for having a yellow rex...but i got accustom to it already

the supra is covering the dent......but yea I HATE DENTS DAMMIT

i also just got all my rust fix too...

impressive hand stand in the engine bay
you must either be a gymnist or have a gymnist background cause you would need serious control in order to not get hurt trying that.

So I guess just sanding and smoothing over the body filler lines is out of the question then. I can't weld.

The past week has sucked progress wise. Non stop rain and I'm getting my *** handed to me by a cold.

Nice project. I just picked up a Y49 car myself this weekend. I am going to make a thread about it when I get all the pics out of the camera.

This one was for sale for 3 weeks and no bites at $2200 or $2400 but it was a buddy of mine so I got it much cheaper. And he actually has another one that he is looking to get to sell.
