E-Brake question: Possible for one wheel to engage more than the other?
Hey guys/girls,
Thanks for the help. I'm not too familiar with how the e-brake system works, and was wondering...is it possible that one brake is engaging more than the other?
For some reason one of the rear brakes started to smoke a bit...not sure why because I don't think the e-brake was on (I'd feel it for sure). Maybe it was engaged a bit??
I looked after and the disc is definately discolored...strange.
Any ideas?

Yes; there is one cable for each rear brake, that connects to the e-brake handle. It is possible as far as I know for one to have more give (and therefore be less effective) than the other.
Here's a how-to for adjusting the e-brake tension

As far as having one rear brake suddenly stick or rub the rotor as if it was engaged, while the other is not, I don't know how that could happen. Was your e-brake recently adjusted?

Thanks guys, I doubt the caliper is seized, but I'll definately check.
I think the e-brake was slightly engaged by the person that was driving (it wasn't me, I'm just taking the hit for them). But it wasn't at high speed, and not for a long distance.
I also noticed that the pad has appeared to embed a layer onto the disc. The layer only covers about a quarter or third of the contact surface of the disc. Is this bad?

I changed the pads in the last few weeks. I'll have to check them out. I put them in exactly the way the old ones came out, and checked to make sure the "fingers" were not contaminated.
