Default WOW! New problem! LOUD *** SQUEAL!?!?!

When I start my car, there is this incredibly loud, annoying squeal, sounds "belty" or something. When let off the starter it goes away, and whenever I hit the gas it comes back with the revs. After a few pumps of the gas, it's gone.

Any ideas? I'm pissed...

That's what I was thinking. It did sounds like it was coming from the left side of the engine (from the driver's seat) so that makes sense.

Is there anything else it could be? I don't wanna leave any stone unturned.

Thanx for the help by the way! Ya'll rock!

Don't go too crazy on how tight it is... Too tight can be bad too...

I guess I'll see how tight it is now, and just go a little bit tighter. Then really tighten the **** outta the locking bolt so it won't move again!

You can always eliminate the alt belt and then start the car and see if it goes away

Belt is more then likely your problem. Since your taking off the belt, take off the alternator and check to see if the bearing in it makes noise, and get it tested for charge (any autoparts store should be able to do this for you). Nothings worse then having an alternator seize on you far away from home, and tools to loosen the belt to not make the engine work as hard on your limp trip home haha.

i would drive around and get the belt hot and then tighten it s so when it cools it will be tight enough.

It actually gets hotter when it's idling for about 20-25 minutes then driving around. But for the price of a belt, check for cracks, you notice one, chuck it and go get a new one. Old belts stretch and wear out, factor in cracking and glazing, you got yourself a squealer.
