Toothless timing belt!
My brother owns a broken civic. Since I am a mechanic he had me look at it. What I found was his timing belt is missing a bunch of teeth!!! I have been looking to see is his motot is an interferance or not but I can't find the info. I would like to know before I pull off the head. The block is stamped as a D15B and the valve cover says 16 valve but I don't know what other things to look for to find out.
So I guess my question is. Did he bend valves or not? Can I replace the belt and send him down the road or do I need to rebuild his head?

chances are good a rebuild may be in order, I've seen a motor fatally wounded by skipping just a couple of teeth(his adjustable camgears slipped too though). The only way is to pull off the head and make sure.
The belt has missing teeth most likely because the water pump seized up and since the water pump is driven by the timing belt thats what caused it to fail. Most of the egines that I have had broken timing belts on i simply put a used belt back on and timed it to see if it would run and then do a leak down and or compression first to find what if any parts are broken. Most of the single cams that have had this problem have ran perfect after broken timing belts. Check it out first
Put each cylinder at TDC and do a leakdown test. This is the only way to know for sure IMO...
Ive seen really old timing belts break teeth off like you described...How old was this one?
