06 Rsx how to break in motor
Hey guys whats up. I traded my 03 rsx base for a 06 rsx type s. i bought the car with 84 miles on it and i have hit vtec a few times after i got it above 150 miles. how long should i wait or how should i break in the motor? thanks
Some people say to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Some people say to stomp on it right away to make sure the rings seat before the cylinder walls get polished smooth.
Well, whatever. When I can get two identical cars, dismantle & examine their engines, put them back together, break them in differently, and then spend 200,000 miles to see what happens, I'll have a good answer regarding which procedure is better.

Limit the high revs, but feel free to give it gas from time to time. No redlining. After about 800-1000 you should be fine to do whatever. Just be smart.</TD></TR></TABLE>
what he said, just drive it NORMAL, not like a race car. but dont feel afraid to hit vtak once in awhile. also try to avoid using the cruise control, the rings seat better on constant compression/decompression

i could find some link to show you some mechanic that said you should run the engine like a race car but i'm lazy...the piston rings will seat the way they should and it will preserve the engines full horsepower potential. I'd say this is about as plausible as driving like an old lady to break in the engine.

Follow the instructions inthe manual for the initial break in and then put synthetic in it. (It's just better lube) After that drive it normal but don't be afraid to get on an exit ramp and get down on it but just keep the rpms down and through time bring them up gradually untill about 2000 miles and then you can really hammer it, but work your way up acouple grand at a time until the 2000ish give or take.

Thanks for the guys that have helped. total turn out is that i have been driving it pretty normal under 4500 rpm. every now and then i hit vtec and i am at 900 miles right now i dont get on it too hard all the times but sometimes i just gotta let it rip.
when do you think i should be able to put on a cai and headers????

I'd wait till around 1500 for the CAI, and 3k for the header. Don't be in a rush for the header, the gains per $$$ isn't that good. Focus on the suspension. Get your basic breathing done, intake and exhaust, then get some springs or coilovers for looks and handeling.
I've done about $15k to my car over the past 3.5 years, and my favorite part has to be all my suspension work. With all the power it has, it does you no good if you can't keep it down to the ground.

Glory hallelujah! Finally, someone who seems to realize the importance of suspension!
