how do people NOT know such basic info?????
i saw a post like this earlier what trans fluid???
its not that hard to find its in the owners manual and any helms/haynes
for all those that dont know Honda MTF = honda 10w30 motor oil
any 10w30 will work fine INCLUDING synthetics, which actually maybe advantageous
pour both into a clear container observe color and viscosity by swirling Note: must use actual honda oil's to perform test as all motor oils differ in colors and slightly in thickness
DO NOT USE REGULAR TRANS FLUID its TOO thick and will cause premature synchro failure.
gm synchromesh should only be used temoprarily as a cheap and crude fix for your aching synchro's b/c its a thin oil and will also eventually have adverse effects on your trans
additives are for the most part NO GOOD either

For all those who do know, Honda MTF is not the same as 10W30. The difference is the additives. Smell the MTF and a comparison 10W30. Then go smell some 90W gear oil. Which one smells like the gear oil?
Engine oil has additives designed to sequester combustion by products. Gear oil (MTF) has additives to better control the wetting and friction properties.

Are you suggesting that I can run Honda MTF in my crankcase as well as my transmission?

tranny fluid is some stinky ****
think of how often you you change motor oil compared to tranny fluid? the ratio is something like 25:1 atleast
there are diferent addatives in tranny fluid that coat and protect syncros and the other gears
tranny fliud is four something bucks at the dealership, dont be cheap and use motor oil, if you are going to do it, do it the right way the first time

I think he meant regular gear oil, its the thick stuff, like 80 weight.
Honda MTF rules, and Honda made it for a reason, the regular motor oil wasn't cuttin it. And since Honda actually cares about the longevity of there vehicles, they came out with a better product to use.
