Default D16y8 pistons in a D16y7 motor

Hi HT,

Have a noobie question that I need to ask the masses. Ben and I are unsure if the forged D16y8 pistons for the SOHC vtec will work with a D16y7 SOHC non-vtec.

Has anyone used forged pistons for the y8 into a y7 and did this lower the CR or raise the CR?

Any help would be appreciated. I cant seem to find a direct answer searching.

the Y8 has higher comp, but honeslty once the old pistons are used you should have the block "properly" honed and then use NEW pistons as the old ones will also be worn some thus causing out of proper spec.

if your going to repalce them, mught as well reolace the rods and pistons with something better.
I'm not an advicate of them at all, but if you need to get running again, you can get a set of vitara pistons and have the block hones to 75.5mm (order 75.5 pistons) then you can order a set of eagel/scatt rods and your done. it will hold over 300 hp and be safe if you tune it right.

Y7 and Y8 are same piston and bore, it's jsut the dome heigth and shape that's different, but you can run either in either combo.

They Y8 head out flows the Y7 head by a LONG shot. the ports on the Y7 are smaller and the chamber is not as tight. your better off using a Y8 head if you want the extra power, if you just want decent fun then stick with the Y7.

The Best D16 head is the Z6 (92-95 civic EX or SI D16Z6 (sohc v-tec)) it out flows all over D heads and has the most potential.

it's only 3 wires (vtec solenoid, vtec pressure switch, and ground).

it's definitely worth it.
