What parts to buy for my B18C5?
I just got a B18C5 to swap into my car. I don't know what year the motor was made and the guy I got it from doesn't know either. My question is, are all ITR engines the same as far as timing belt, spark plugs, wires, oil filter, cap, rotor, etc, etc? If I have to get different parts depending on what year it was made how would I find that out? I want to change the water pump and timing belt before I drop it in the car but I was curious if anyone had info about this.

Hmmmm. It's fine to be skeptical, but let's not accuse until we know for sure.

I tried to avoid the long details of the engine but since it sounds stolen I will tell you.
The guy bought a del sol with the engine swap already in it. The car was all pimped out to go into car shows. I've seen pictures of the car sitting out with the mirrors under it and so on. He decided to put a stock engine in the del sol and sell it. Then he sold the engine separate. The guy owns an import shop where I bought it from. I know none of this proves the engine is not stolen but it does show he has alot to lose if he got busted for selling a hot engine. Its not like I bought it out of the back of a truck..... It was advertised and out for everybody to see. If its stolen and he knew about it, he doesn't care about getting in trouble.
Since I posted this I have heard that all type R engines are the same as far as parts go. Does that mean I can go into an auto parts store and ask for a "enter random part here" for a '98 to '01 Integra Type R?

Your right. Thats why I come to ask the questions. '97 to '01? Is that the range?

There are two ways that you should be able to tell what year the motor is. First, you can easily check the cylinder head and there are some dates that are stamped in. This picture is of my 1998.

The other way to tell is by the VIN tag on the front of the block. This is located at the very bottom. It is pointed out in this crappy pic:

If you don't have this VIN tag, it's most likely stolen. If the tag is still on then check the 10th digit of the VIN.
V = 1997
W = 1998
Y = 2000
1 = 2001
Not everyone who has an ITR has a stolen motor

All the theft BS could have easily been taken care of with this statement right here. And the original questions of maintenance with regards to the timing belt and water pump could have been answered in the FAQ or a quick 2 second search...
