Default budget boosting my 88si. need ideas

alright,i have a couple questions for my cheap buildup im planning on my 88crxsi

it has 150k miles runs good and is basically stock except for a cheap autozone intake w/ ebay filter, custom (mufflershop) exhaust and some cheap coilovers.

i have an hf manifold with a 1 inch thick adapterplate i made at work. and a t3 junkyard turbo i got off a saab. the turbo is in good condition. it has all the fins ,spins freely and has very little shaft play. i also have the saab intercooler. its alittle small but thats what i have so thats what im using.

my questions are, what is the cheapest way to get this setup running safely. i know you get what u pay for but i am a father of 5 kids so i dont have tons of money to dump on my car.

im not looking for crazy horsepower gains. im not trying to smoke mustangs and camaros. i just want to use these parts ive gotten over the past couple of years and make my fun little car a little more fun.

i dont know the specs of my turbo all i know is its a t3 garret from a saab. im not sure if its too big for my d16a6. im a lil worried about lag.

i was also wondering about fuel control and im aware that the mitsubishi turbo injectors fit on my fuel rail but i would need some way of controlling them.
ive read in these forums about turbo edit and chrome but im not really familiar with that stuff. i dont know if my car is obd0,1,2... how do these setups work? how do you tune them?

and what horsepower numbers should i expect? i dont plan on running boost higher than 5-6psi unless i can build the motor. maybe someday but for now i just wanna get this running reliably.
what about the piggy back stuff like apexi afc...could these be used to control a setup like this? my friend has a delsol (d16z6) and an s2000. i bought this crx off him for 7oo bucks and he has an apexi v-tec afc laying around from his old car that i could probably get cheap off him.

like i said i just want my car to be reliable and a lil quicker. someday when i have the
money i want to swap in a k20z3 with itb's

well any help would be greatly appreciated. thx

umm how the heck do u upload photos? i wanna upload pics of my car and parts but i dont know how

well the cheapest way would be a FMU.

you should socket your ECU and get turboedit

so an fmu would cut it with stock ecu and injectors (at low boost im assuming)
i was thinking about gettin dsm injectors with a s-afc and an fmu.
also does anyone know how to determine the specs of a turbo. mine has an id plate riveted on but i dont understand the numbers.
and how do post pictures. i want to put some up of my crx

thx for the links ls_dx. i'll check it out afer work.

I just skimmed but you best bt is to get your ecu and use turboedit with a basemap till you can get a good tune, get your stuff from xenocron you WILL need bigger injector than stock get some DSM 390cc if you are running low boost they are cheap or get the 450cc if you want to run more they should be good to 250-300hp, what year saab is the turbo from could be a T3 .42/.48 or aT3 flanged T25 I believe on the newer ones

i dont really remember what year it was. i just saw yhe turbo and grabbed it i didn't really look at the car but i do remember it was a newer style saab. maybe like a 93 or around that year. there are a bunch of numbers on the tag it has but i dont understand none of it. if someone tells me how to post up pictures i'll post 1 up of the tag then maybe someone could help me figure out the specs.
thanks for the advice i really appreciate it.

i think im gonna start off with s-afc and dsm injectors. since my crx is an si i'm pretty sure it already has a resistor box.

Yup you have a resistor boix and the DSM will work just need to dremel out your injector seals...I honestly think the s-afc is just a waste of money since in the big picture a chipped ecu and tune is going to get you the best results, yea the afc will work but only to a certain extent, thats just my opinion

i guess ur prolly right, i dont know how much s-afc costs but i'd be better off using that money towards
a chipped ecu. with that setup do i have to program it initially. i dont really know if theres a dyno near my area. so tuning would be tricky. i don't wanna do it half-assed. agian i know its only a stock d16 so im not looking for high gains in hp. i just want my engine to be a lil more powerful but i dont want it to run like ****. does anyone have any idea of a rough estimate how much power should i expect from a stock d16 with hf mani and a garret t3 at maybe 6 lbs of boost?
