Default Seatbelt issue

Does anyone know if it is common for the seatbelts to just STOP retracting?

My car has been in for a top replacement and have the radio repaired. After waiting for over 11days (long story, lets just say I bought the car on the 11th of may took delivery on the 16th of may, and the car has been in the shop since the 21st of may, I am not HAPPY!) I went to pick it up tonight so I can have it for the weekend (I gave them till 12:30 tomorrow (friday) to finish the radio repair)

Get in the car, start it up, go to put on my seatbelt and it is really tough to pull out. No signs of this issue the 5days I had it in my possesion. I think may be the seat is rubbing on it, kinda tipped back. Nope that didn't do it, before I know it I have all the belt in my lap and its not retracting. I call the garage guy over (it's 7:30pm) He looks at and says "I can't let you take it like that!"

NO KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!

I tell him that I want the car for the weekend and they have had the car for 11days for a radio!

So come morning they are going to look at it.

I am thinking it is installed upside down and the seabelt lock is causing it to not retracting.

Well atleast I am hoping that is all it is. I will be so pi$$ed if I don't have the car for another weekend! I already missed the beautiful holiday weekend!

So wacha guys think? Is it common or is my thought founded?

The seatbelt would be twisted only if they took off your stock roll hoop covers. I've done a few top-swaps myself, and have not had to touch the roll hoops. Have them look at it, because the only way to see if the belt is twisted internally is to take apart the roll hoops, along with the rest of the interior... again.

They did say there was leak into the car on the drivers side. So they pulled the panels off to make sure there wasn't any damage (I asked them to check)

I am hoping they just screwed something putting the belt back in. <

Seatbelts have a lifetime warranty. My g/f's S had hers replaced twice same reason.

Sounds like it was twisted one way or another. revhi has a point though. You should be covered.

yeah they had it for the top and radio and it worked when it went in. Even if it wasn't free it would be. They had the car for a redonkulous amount of time for a radio and a top replacement.....
