car has "gritty" feeling on surface after hand car wash, anyone experience this?
Well, after letting my car go about 2 months without being washed (dumb choice, as the dirt really gets caked on) I finally went to one of those hand car wash booths. Ended up spending like $22 by the time I was done, but I didn't have the time or feel like getting out my **** at home, so I went to this local place. Anyway, after all is done, I notice a very large area of the car (mostly rear and sides) has this gritty or sandy feeling to it. You can also see little specs. I didn't know if this was dirt that had not been scrubbed off enough or what, but I noticed it on the top and sides of the car too where the wasn't even dirt previous to the wash. I am speculating if it was the foam-emitting brush that was used. All I know is that the car doesn't have a smooth feeling if I run my hand along it, and I didn't want to wax the car over this crap. Anyone have anything like this happen? I even tried really srubbing hard in a small circular motion and ended up puttin glittle circular (barely noticeable, but enough to **** me off) scratches in it. I don't know. Any comments?

Sounds the same thing that happened to my old hatch.
I think that mine happened because i paid for a crappy paint job, and hence, recieved a crappy paintjobs worth of trouble. Do YOU have a crappy/cheap paintjob?

No, I bought the car with the paint job it has but it is very through and decent. Guy said he paid over $3000 and I believe him.(see below) Also, like I said, this grit was never present before the car wash.

I would clay it down completely, and use a cleaner wax to see if it improves.

Clay bar is used to remove contaminants from your paint. If you haven't washed it in a long time, you may have industrial fallout or caked on dirt that you can't get off with regular soap and water.
Just seach "clay" in the archives, and you'll find a couple of pages on it.

Here is what the kit looks like. You can get it at Checker Auto. Works great.
