Default Another "car won't start problem"

I was ready to leave work yesterday when my car died as I was backing up out of my parking space.

I pulled my distributor and noticed the carbon contact for tha coil was burning away and looked inside the coil and noticed that the arc had been buring through the coil post melting part of the coil........so I replaced the cap and coil. The car won't start......

1. Engine will turn over.

2. I have spark...pulled plug wire and grounded wire with screw driver....bright spark arcing thru 1/8" to 1/4" gap.

3. I'm getting fuel...I pulled the inlet to the fuel filter and turned the key on and fuel gushed out....I then opened the exit to the fuel filter and turned key on..geting fuel gushing out the filter.

4. Pulled spark plug to see if any fuel is on spark plug.....looks dry.

the fuel injectors don't seem to be firing......could the resistor box be at fault?

Thanks

no codes?

check for 12v on the blk/yel on the injectors (or whatever color is common to all of them)

I know you say your getting fuel...but do you hear the fuel pump? Or the click/s when you first turn the key?

yep ihear the fuel pump buzz for a couple seconds then shut off. I also hear the click of the main relay under the dashboard. I 've replaced the main relay before but it did'nt give me these kind of no start symptoms before.

the manual says, "disconnect the 2P connector on the injector resistor". I assume it means the injector "resistor box".
I then measured the voltage from each Yellow/Black wire to ground with the volt meter and was'nt getting 12 volts. I was getting like close to 0 volts.

I assume the main relay is at fault? but I thought the main realy controlled voltage to the starter, coil and fuel pump...not the fuel injectors.

the yel/blk that goes into the resistor box does come from the main relay..

Thanks Mike.......thats what I thought

I'm not getting 12volts at the resistor box.

For reference....the battery is measuring 12.4 volts.
Over lunch I just picked up a new main relay.

that could be the problem too, but it could also be a ground wire that the relay uses.

no ground and it wont pass the 12v

Not sure.... Could the ignition switch cause it?

Yes, I've read a few threads having the same problem. Some people switched the IGN Switch and it started right up.

check the fuses in both the underhood box and the accessory box.

i think its fuse #14 and #7, but check them all (use a multimeter for a continuity test accross the terminals of the fuse for the best accuracy.)

well it turns out the cap and coil were causing the original "no start" condition.

When I put the new cap on I got the ignition wires on wrong.....DOH!.....
Thanks for the help guys.
