Default Midbass woofers....

I'm not into getting a huge amped system.

How would a system sound running off a deck with two decent speakers up front and two midbass woofers in the rear?

Anyone out there ever done this?

It would sound better without anything in the rear at all. Rear speakers are just for fill and they use up power that should be used for the front speakers. I run a high powered deck (mid to high end Alpine) with components up front, using the Alpine's active crossover and not the passive crossover that came with the components, and a powered subwoofer. I'm happy with it, but if budget, theft, and weight weren't an issue with my car, I'd consider getting a 2 channel amp for the components. Maybe get some Q form enclosures, and use a quality sound deadener near the speakers and the trunk area, and you really can't justify anything beyond that unless you're just trying to be loud or look cool.

In my own car I have no rear speakers. A good component set and some sound deadening can do wonders for midbass. Then again a good 2 channel amp never hurt

You guys are kind of missing the point....

I would be using midbass woofers as my rear fill instead of a subwoofer. The midbass woofers would replace my rear speakers.

I am wondering how it would sound with two 6.5 components up front and two 6.5 mid bass woofers in the rear running off of a head unit.

Well I guess its kind of a generic question as I don't have specific speakers listed but does anyone have this type of setup?

I run an Alpine "high power" HU and four 6.5" Eclipse 2way speakers, [rear tweeters disconnected] in a 94 teg LS, and although I am using HU power, stock speaker wire, I have spent time and effort installing the speakers, custom MDF speaker mounts for the fronts and extensive Dynamating to the doors and custom MDF and fiberglass cabinets in the rear, with some Dynamating in the rear.

I have had this setup for about 7 years, it sounds very good including good bass response, [no I can't get down to 20Hz] but I have been accused of having a hidden sub and amp in the car. 94

how did you make the mdf/ fiberclass cabinets for the rear?? ported or sealed? do you have any pics? i've been thinking about doing this for a long time.

back to the topic . . . what midbass woofers are you gonna use? JL makes some 6.5 in subs ya know, they say they're designed for infinite baffle ie. the rear deck of a car

I recently ditched my subs and am rocking with 7"s in front and Nissan/Clarion 6x9's in the back amped by a really shitty old school Kicker 4ch...if I had a better amp and did a better install on the fronts I know it would rock, but as it is now the 2 6x9's are lowpassed at about 80Hz and it sounds like I have a sub. The excursion on them is ugly and it's pretty distorted but it gets down to about 30Hz which is good enough for me...

I'm seriously contemplating getting CDT midbasses all around and running 3-way setups in the doors so I can lowpass all my midbasses at like 100Hz. I gotta get a decent amp first though.

But yea...with proper speaker selection and installs you can easily get nice bass from deck speakers. My mom rented an '04 Malibu and I was thoroughly impressed by the front woofers' bass.

I don't think so, and even if they did because of the position of the amp it couldn't make much power as it would overheat like crazy. At best, MAYBE you could work something out and throw amps under your seats...

if you want to do mid-bass drivers kicker makes the SSMB6s and SSMB8s. I ran the 8's in my friends car and I love them, but you are going to need a decent sized amp to push them. If u amp the midbass drivers you will want to amp your fronts to keep up also so you dont pull your imaging too far to the back. I dont know if you want to do a 4 channel amp, but I would reccomend figuring that into the equasion.
