Default Getting into the honda scene.

I'm in the market for my first car completely paid for by myself (with no stupid rents help) and I'm set on finding a 2 DR GS-R. It's in the right price range for the most part, and I've always though 94-01 integras are some of the best looking imports on the road. Here's my current situation. test drove a GS-R with a couple mods from some used dealership today. It was slammed, had smoked corners, and a type-r lip, and those are the only mods I found. It ran smooth like any near stock honda would, didn't pull to either direction, v-tec still worked its magic, had some nice dings, but no big deal. One problem. 220,000 miles. Ran like it had 100,000 though. Any more things I should look for tomorrow if I decide to go back? It's on a hold until 11 AM tomorrow, and after that it can be mine with just a signature. Any special or typical things I should look for? Any help is greatly appreciated, and I really hope this doesn't get black holed or locked or any crap like that. I'm a pretty knowledgeable car guy, I'm just out of my league with hondas/acuras for now.

Peace out.

i never worry about mileage. atleast not when dealing with hondas. how much? ask the dealership what the compression is. Did you redline the car? I think its always a good idea to redline a car or atleast take it up pretty high before you buy a car. It the motor is healthy it shouldnt be a problem.

I'm glad this forum moves fast.

But anyways, they want 4995 for it before fees. Felt strong to me. When I test drove it the guy was trying to explain how he liked the vtec and I told him he didn't even know what it was. So I showed him the changeover and stuff, so I brought it up to at least 5 grand. It felt pretty nice, and I know that 220,000 on a honda is nowhere near that bad than the same amount on most other cars, just curious about stuff that only a honda gearhead would know to look for or anything. I mean, if I don't get this one, I'll find another integra somewhere, because my heart is set on one within the next month or so.

*Edit* from what I noticed everything was smooth mechanically wise, just jitters about buying something with such high miles as my only car.

Well first of all, I would take it to your mechanic and check it out mechanically. Make sure everything is in working order. Also, see if the tranny is in good shape, and make sure it hasnt been run hard by the previous owner, or else you will have a major problem in the near future. Thats what I'd do if I were you.

4995 for a 94 with 220k?? Sounds pretty steep to me. I'd just wait it out until you find something better. I got my 98 GS about a year ago with 35k for 5600. Granted it's not a GS-R, but if you wait, you'll find a better deal.

I agree with bmcteg98 4995 seems really steep for a 94 with that many miles. I would continue to look around. Don't settle on something if it is not what you want.

You should always try to "haggle" the price a little bit at a dealership. you can usually get them to knock off at least 15% because the mark up is around 40%. Although it very well could be a nice car, I wouldn't pay over $3500 for it.

I brought it up to more than 7 grand, becuase I made a bet with the he hadn't felt the secondary and he was wrong. It looks like the sale got taken out from right under me anyways, so I'm on a mission to find one with lower miles. Thanks for all your help guys.
