Default Which springed clutches can handle 400+ whp??

Pretty much like the title says. I'm looking for clutches with the springs in them that can handle at least 400 horsepower or more. I haven't been able to find which one would be best for my application. So, if you have any ideas as to which name brand clutches and types I should look into, please let me know. If you have a website, that would be great. Please post the link.

Thanks!

My Setup:

-- Turbo GSR
-- GSR tranny

300whp daily
Looking for 400+ at the track

You mean a sprung hub? Exedy, ACt, Clutchmasters.
just do some research on what clutches they offer.

I sell these to alot of customers with no issues BUT I usually put them into the upgraded Pressure plate Stage 5. I have had friends'customers make 550whp/375 ft-lb torque on these on a race car then a daily driven weekend warrior making 450whp

Cool. Well, I didn't know what was a good brand and clutch to go with. I currently have the f/s 6 puck clutch kit with flywheel, NO SPRINGS. It lasted about 3 months.

The center spline of my clutch plate got stripped and in turn it also ended up stripping my shaft. So now I have to replace the shaft and bearings. I was recommended to probably get the Exedy 3 puck sprung hub clutch, which I was told can take over 400hp. Or if I really wanted to get hard core to go with something like a hyper single clutch but those cost about $1,200. I don't have that kind of money for a clutch right now.

Anywho, I'm eager to get my car back on the road.

Boosting is addicting, but I like it.

you really shouldnt be looking for clutches in terms of hp but in torque capacity, at 400whp you'll have something aorund 275-300ft/lbs. So look for a clutch/pressureplate with that torque capacity

Well, I just want a good sprung hub clutch that can handle 400 + whp and not have to constantly replace it.

I just cooked a Comp stage5 tuning a 84mm built LS/vtec.
The car made 350ft/lbs on a Dyno Dynamics (add at least 15% for dynojet figures) - and then the clutch slipped massively. Torque graph looked like a horseshoe. Lasted for about half a dozen pulls above 15psi before it cooked.

I didn't install it, I just tuned it. Can't say more than what happened

Regular pressure plateor the HD or Dual Diaphragm pressure plate? With that power I only sell the upgraded pressure plates to customers , no issues from several customers so far

I would be looking at ACT if I were in your shoes. They aren't cheap but they are excellent quality.

I've also cooked 2 ACT XTSS clutches on <350ft/lbs of torque (again, dyno dynamics numbers) in the past month. I personally think ACT is overpriced garbage for anything other than daily-driven weekend warrior cars that doen't make much power. THAT is very much a biased personal opinion, but I seem to shred altogether too many of their clutches under more serious power.

I'm not sure. Pedal pressure when driving the car on the dyno was certainly stiffer than stock but far from the Action 2MD, which is my point of comparison for a stiff clutch. As I said, I didn't buy it, I didn't install it, I don't know exactly.

Not reassuring for someone running an ACT clutch, damn...

To the original poster, why so focused on a sprung hub? Unsprung is simpler (less parts to break), lighter, cheaper... and not much different to drive IMO. Just curious/suggesting I kind of prefer knowing that springs will never pop out of mine, and it's been daily driven in all sorts of conditions! Unsprung 6 puck is really not all that bad...

Note: I haven't killed any XT PP / 6 puck combinations yet. I was referring mostly to the SS disc that everybody thinks is good for a DD turbocharged motor...

exactly, unsprung 6 puck is great, SS is generally overrated

Well, the reason why I'm looking to get a sprung hub is because of my current situation with an unsprung clutch.

I had a 6 puck unsprung f/s cluthch kit w/flywheel put into my car. It lasted for about 2-3 months. The shaft stripped out the center spline of the clutch, which in turn grinded down my shaft... and the shaft was in good condition.

I don't want to have to replace my clutch and tranny shaft every 2-3 months. It ain't cheap. That's why I'm looking for a sprung hub. I need something that can handle 400+ hp. My car is a weekend warrior but a 300 hp daily driven car.

Try ACT extreme pressure plate with a street disc. You will like it for street and strip.
