Radiator overflow....
I tried starting my car with the rad cap off to see if there was any air in the system and after just a few seconds the coolant in the rad filler neck started to rise and overflow...
Is this normal?
Is there another way to bleed the air out of my cooling system?

Thats completely normal, bleed from the bleeder screw on top of the thermostat.

there's detailed step by step diagram with picture in your manual, under coolant section(at least i have for my last three honda's)
i don't have a 5th gen but the bleeder screw is located the highest point of the cooling system and it's not the radiator cap.
bleeding air for cooling system
1)a/c turn to high, with heat to the max and non circulation mode
2)start the car
3)lossen bleeder screw, you should see coolant coming out, a stop and go coolant flow is a sign that air is coming out.
4)wait until you see the coolant is coming out in a uniformed size stream.
5)tighten screw and you are done

never has to go much above 3K unless you just want to see how high it can go.
