Default Oil leaking... need advice on repairing.

My brother got a GSR and I want to help him out on working it. Well I have never try to do oil change or anything, but I know the basic about oil change. I just need to know a little more information to help him so I don't screw up the job.

Anyways, he recently got an oil change from this place who didn't do a well job. The car was leaking oil at night like crazy, just like my car was done at the same place. Though I took my car to another professional to get it done because I wasn't familier with oil change that time.

I assuming that the place he got his oil change didn't change the washer and that's easy to do. Just unbolt it and change it.

The question is, do I need to put some kind of seal on the washer and the bolt and bolt it back to the pan?
Or just change the washer?
Does the car needs to be level on the jack stand?
What about the oil pouring out?
do i replace that with another oil or reused it?

you don't need "some kind of seal" on the washer and the bolt. just tighten it or torque it to about 30lbs.

you can change the washer, but you don't really need to do it that often unless there is damage or wear on the washer. every other oil change should be fine.

the car should be on somewhat level ground with only the two front jack stands holding it up. you can put a brick or thick wood on the rear wheels just in case.

use a catch can or some kind of pan to catch the oil pouring out.

don't reuse the oil. changing your car's oil is called a oil change for a reason. don't forget about the filter too.

i'm in san francisco, let me know if you need help. i will work for food or beer.

I've never changed the washer on the drain plug, it seems to always be fine.

Just jack the car up to the extent of the jack, put some stands under it,
It's easier then so you can take the jack out and have room under there.

Take the Plug out, and have some kind of pan underneath to catch the oil,
once it's drained out, take off the filter, more should come out from there, mostly from the filter.

Take some of the Old oil on your finger, and rub it around the rubber gasket on the New filter,
put the filter, and drain plug back in, if you don't have a Torque wrench to make it the specific tightness, just make sure it's Snug, not Too tight to strip anything.

Then just fill it up with new Oil and you should be done.

The oil filter is new though, not longer than 3months.

If it's just been On there for a while, and hasn't had more then 3000 miles put through it, you should be fine.

The oil is more important to change then the filter, it's just a good idea to do both usually.
