Clutch question? is this a sign of it going out?
Regarding my 94 GSR with hydro tranny...
Ok, this may be a "duh" question but I've never had a clutch go out in my cars so I'm not too sure. For the past week, sometimes, when I push the clutch in, it won't pop back up, it'll stay on the floor board. Then I'll have to take the tip of my shoe, place it underneath the clutch pedal, and lift it back up. Then other times it acts as expected. It's pretty scary when it happens on the highway.
Is this a sign of the clutch going bad or could it have something to do with old dirty fluid that needs to be flushed? How do I flush the hydrolic fluid for the clutch?
Also, when it gets hot out, my breaks will start to get real squishy and I get the same behavior in my break pedal as I do in my clutch but not quite as extreme. Lesschwab said my breaks were fine but I need to flush my break fluid because it's old and something about the fluid being bad and the boiling point is lower then normal. Is this related to my clutch pedal issue? How do I flush my break fluid?
Thanks in advance,
David
it is just like the brakes
have someone pump then hold as you realease the screw, tighten it and have them pump again until the pedal gets still

I had the exact same problem with my clutch pedal sticking to the floor. I agree with blkb18 about the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. After i replaced those the pedal was fine.

Well I bleeded out the hydrolic clutch fluid and it looks like a temporary fix. The problem is that there is a small leak within the slave cylinder so it looks like i'll need to replace that. The master cylinder is completely spotless. How difficult is it to replace the slave cylinder? It looks pretty easy especially since it is right there. I'd probably end up removing the radiator fan to allow that much more room.
that happened to me before it was the slave cylinder leaking and not holding pressure. sounds like your clutch fluid is not holding pressure not so much as your clutch going out
Alright I replaced the slave cylinder with one I purchased at the dealership and everything seems to be good. I didn't realize how easy it was to replace. Thanks again guys.
