Default b18a1 vs b18b1 heads

how much better does a b1 head flow compared to an a1 head?
would an a1 with a p&p, deshrouded valves, and polishedd combustion chambers flow/perform better than a stock b1?

thanks for any help

you should just get the b18b head...ive seen them sell for as little as 75 - 100 bucks here...much less than the work youre about to embark on

buy a b18b, new valve train and do the p&p and youll be very satisfied with the performance results.

i thought the b18b's head was better flowing, hence the 10 hp increase over the previous gen

The B18b intake cam is slightly more aggressive than the intake cam on a B18a.

well...

There are a few factors in why the generations make more power. Namely, the ECU, cams, exhuast manifold and intake manifold.

There's a **** load of debate, but nobody has any solid evidence. What I posted was hear-say as is 90% of hte posts in this thread.

I say get whichever [head] is cheaper, they all use hte same gaskets and ****.

that has to do with the slight difference in cams, intake manifold, and ECU

the 92-93 integras saw a 10hp increase due to the cams and ECU change when honda switched over to obd1, the bare a1 heads are the same as the bare b1 heads

I can vouch for that. My 93 b18a1 head is the same casting as my 94 b18b head. Same intake and exhaust port size.

what makes u think a b18b head is better? they are the same exact casting. there is a woppin 10 hp difference and that is due to im, header ecu, and cams. those are the only differences. but if ur building the head ur gonna swap cams right? ur gonna swap im right? ur gonna swap header right? and if u already got the a1 it jus seems more logical to sticck with the a1. flow characteristcs are the same on these heads same as a b20 head except for p8r. but if ur stuck on gettin a b18b head than ill sell u my b20 head which is the same ****. u get what im sayin? its all the same.

just thought i'd update...
i got the head it's a 98 p75 with a full port and polish, deshrouded valves, and polished combustion chambers.
the guy went to some performance cylinder head school and did it all himself.he said that this head was never flowed but he did the same work to a gsr head before and bench flowed it and the numbers were in the high 280's...so he does pretty good work and the head looks mint.

o ya i got it for 75 bucks

yeah I plan on doing a p&p on a head at school. Found a few heads, was wondering the difference myself, glad I found this thread. I am just going to get whatever is cheaper/closer.
