Default GSR burning/losing oil?

I have a 1995 Integra GSR and have noticed that between oil changes (every 3000 miles w/ mobil 1 synthetic) it loses about 1/3 of a quart. Is this normal for the engine to burn/lose a little bit of oil between oil changes?

Yes it is... especially if it is only 1/3 of a quart... Since I have mine (96 gsr) it always burn between 1/2-1 liters of oil every 3000 miles. If you love to VTEC, that's the price to pay... Mine runs very well, and I have 140000 miles! I'm dragracing, autocrossing and lapping almost every week!!

Let's say you burn more oil than you say... First, does it smoke blue? Ask someone to follow you and rev until redline and ask your friend to flash light when it start smokin... If it does...it is almost sure that your rings are not good anymore... If not then it might not be so bad...

There is a couple of cheap things to check... pcv valve, cam cover gasket, oil pan gasket, oil pressure switch (just over the oil filter behind the block). I even had a civic that was loosing a lot by the screw of the oil pan!

If there is no leak at all and no smoke and only 1/3 of a quart... Keep it in the VTEC!

alright! i really do appreciate the info! I just had the engine rebuilt which is why i was worried! there is no smoke or anything coming from the exhaust and nothing is leaking from the engine. I was under the impression that it was normal because of VTEC and the high revs. Thanks so much! you made my day.

want a cookie?

most motors as old as his are going to lose oil if you beat on it alot but they arent going to lose much and when your only losing 1/3 of a quart per oil change that isnt bad at all... but if your so smart whats wrong with his car why is he losing oil?

nah i dont want a cookie...what i want is for him to know that you wont burn oil just because you have a vtec engine...because thats just false...and i dont know why he is losing oil he hasnt really given any specific information other than hes losing a bit of it...numerous places you can lose oil...pcv...rings...seals...an oil leak...

u can take a brand new motor and beat the crap out of it, and it will loose a little bit of oil i guarantee it, but it wont be that noticable, it wont smoke or anything but u might burn a 1/4 of a quart wich it aint that much, and i do this for a living so i know whats acceptable.
