Default sunroof problem Help!

I did a search but can not find the same problem. My sunroof will close but stops in the tilt position, and will not go down unless I push up on the glass. when it jams the motor is makeing nose so I don't think it is the motor. any ideas ?

Could be that something got into the track the sunroof rides in and the motor isn't powerful enough to crush it down so the roof will sit in a facsimile of it's correct position.

Could be the motor has gotten old and can't exert as much torque as it used to.

Could be that the track the motor pulls/pushes against has a couple missing teeth in that section. But after you manually smoosch it closed if it'll open under power, then it can't be missing teeth.

I suspect you've just got some debris in there. The thing is that the mechanism is hiding above your ceiling liner, and that's not much fun to put back up after pulling down.

mines slow as hell too and I have to push on it to help it close at times.

I rubbed some wax on the tracks the roof slides on after some skating one afternoon and it smoothed it on out .

my motor is prolly going bad tho .

I would imagine this is the case on most of our cars. Hell, our EGs are at most going on 15 years old. Are the motors easy to replace? How exactly do you replace it?

the motor is easy to replace, but you have to pull the head liner down. I know the motor is not as strong as it was 15 years ago however getting back on topic, when the sunroof jams I can hear the motor really trying to close it so I belive there must be something wrong with the track. do you guys have any play in the glass if you push it up? is it possable for something to get unalined or lose.

Sometimes mine will get stuck where it arcs up. I'll just use the button to move the sunroof back and then close it again, usually that fixes it. My guess is, if were all having the same problem (with the sunroof closing flush with the roof) I would highly doubt that it's something with a bent track, or something in the way but more of a motor issue.

i had this problem today and searched and found this post, it would close but not tilt down, i fought with it and forced on it for about twenty min, read this, when to check debris in the track, how in the world this just happened i don't know? but a rock the size of a marble was sitting up in the track preventing it. so check the track

LOL you too huh. My sunroof is super screwed. It ONLY lifts up and after that you have to push it back down if you want it closed. It wont slide back. It was slid back when I bought it but I had to push it foward and now it wont slide back. When I try to slide it open the passenger side moves about an inch and the driver side won't move at all. If I keep hitting the button the motor grinds. I bet you could find the whole assembly at a junkyard for a decent price. Trouble is... if yours' is that old and acts that bad... one from a junkyard probably will too.

I also have this problem.. for the longest time my sunroof would actually wheelhop when I was opening it.. I sprayed some pb blaster on the tracks and cleaned them up some.. helped alot.. just so everyone knows (if you didnt already) you can manually open / close the sunroof with the tool in the back.. just pop the plastic plug out of the headliner and put the tool in.. and itll crank open..

(opening a sun roof by hand is JDM p.s.)

their is a slider on each side that has a plastic rectangle molded to the top of it. when the roof slides forward these rectangular pieces pop up into a rectangular hole in the aluminum track its in. over time the plastic becomes brittle and the front edge of the rectangle chips off. it will then pop up into the hole but does not stay there since the front is missing, and will pop back down and continue to slide forward. it is imperitive to the sunroof closing that thes sliders stop where they are supposed to as this is what causes a second set of sliders to start which lowers the back half of the glass panel. this is a common problem, and the parts to fix it is cheap, however it does require you removing the entire roof assembly and tearing it all the way down, replacing the sliders, and putting it all the way back together. also someone said something about missing teeth on the moter gears- there are supposed to be two missing teeth on the "cam gear" in the gear box as it has an extra set of teeth that run a switch fo the vent section of your moonroof switch . but other than those two intentionally missing teeth the gear on the motor itself is metal , and directly run the worm gears that control the sliders. so that shouldnt be an issue.
