I know that 96-98 Civics are OBD2a and 99-00 are OBD2b. But someone told me that that isn't true for HXs. They said that all 96-00 HXs are OBD2a. Is this true? Because I need to buy a conversion harness for my 97 HX for an OBD1 B18B, and I want to make sure I get the right one. Thanks.

 

all civics 96-98 are obd-2a, no matter, HX, EX, LX...w/e.....
all civics 99+ are obd-2b, not matter HX, EX, LX....w/e
i think the same goes for integras also......

im running the obd2a- obd1 harness in my car now and i know it came from an integra, i pulled it myself.......

I asked this question many years ago and for someone to check their 99-00 Hx ECU for the connector configuration - but I never got a reply.

So yes, according to the Helms ETM, the Hx from 96-99 (I'll assume 00 too, but the ETM I have only covers up to 99) was OBD2a. When you look at the top of the page for the description, you're greeted with "All 96-98 models except D16B5; 99 D16Y5 with M/T".

The Hx was def OBD2a between 96-98 so don't worry about your 97 being something else. If you had a 99-00, I'd say go out and check your ECU connector configuration to be sure of what conversion harness to order.
