Default Can you help me get to 175-200 whp...D-series

Before anyone says it,yes I did a search and it came up fairly helpful.I was able to find a bunch of different setups and alot of information regarding the D-series motors.
So here is what I'm trying to do.I have a completely stock 98 civic coupe, with a d16y7 with 105k.Its going to be my daily driver, but I would like to have just a little more punch to it without doing a swap.I want to keep the head/block completly stock, but I'm hoping to put together a setup to where I could achieve between 175-200 whp, safely as possible. Before I buy anything I'm going to keep searching and tap into as many turbo experts that I could so that I could put together the right kit.
I will be honest,I don't want to spend a whole load of cash because I'm in the process of putting a big majority of my money into my motor build of my hatch...but at the same time I do realize that if I want to get the best out of the turbo that it won't be cheap or it will just mess up and I will end up spending more then I wanted to.I do plan on getting it tuned.I'm just wondering if I should go with a t-25 from the eclipse or a t-3 from a saab..I already found a few manifolds, intercoolers and all the lines etc,I guess now I'm unsure of the injectors, fuel and what size turbo I could safely use to achieve my goals.Sorry for the essay, just wanted to be as clear as possible.Thank you for your time and any help would greatly appriciated.

i would get the t3 turbo..since you want cheap i would get some dsm 450cc fuel injectors,,then you would have to run a resistor box though..for fuel pump you have some choices,,walbro seems to be like by many,,can get the 190 and 255 off ebay pretty cheap..for the power you want you might be able to get away with the stock pump,,how are you going to tune it since you're obd2 right now?

Thank you for your input.Yes I am obd2.I am waiting to hear back from the place plan on getting it tuned to see what he reccomends.I was more unsure regarding the fuel pump because only a few people I saw upgraded theirs.I'm thinking its prolly safer then sorry to spend the extra money and take care of ot along woth some arp headstuds. It seems like a lot of people were using the dsm 450 injectors.
Thank you again for your input,I really appriciate it.

go with the T3. Although the T25 is a good turbo to make low to mid range power, the T3 will make good mid to high and that's what you'll want to reach your goal. You won't have much trouble at all looking for a D-series T3 manifold, as they are everywhere. You won't find a T25 D-series manifold unless you go to HMT route using the HF manifold.

I think H-T is probably the best forum for FI, but for the D-series, you can find plenty of info on http://www.turbod16.com

Before you boost it, I suggest you replace your headgasket, clutch, and headbolts before anything. I hear a lot of Dseries guys complain about their HGs being blown quickly.

they blow head gaskets cause d series have small bores and build chamber pressure quickly and get affected by pressure alot more than b series, cause b series have larger bores.

step retards on d series less than 1 deg/psi is too small of a retard. works on twin cams not sohcs

Thanks W O T,I'm actually GreenCivicEg on there tooThere are lots of good cheap stuff on there.I came to HT to get some guidence, and so far everyone has been nothing but helpful. The D series motor is a little new to me in terms of its potential, because I never read up on it...I've been doing a lot of studying on my b series turbo set up that will go in my hatch. So many options. Thanks again guys.

Yeah,no doubt no doubt.Arp headstuds and a new headgasket and clutch. This might be a stupid question, but my friend has a stock EVO intercooler just lying around,do you think that would work.I've decided to go with the t3 turbo and the 255 fuel pump (just in case I end up with a little more power then I planned for )arp head studs, head gasket, the dsm 450 cc injectors.I'm still looking for the best prices on a manifold, intercooler, pipping, wastegate and bov.I will probably have some luck in the classifieds for most of that

the evo intercooler should work maybe a little big for your goals but if the price is right there is no reason you cant use it

your can put a kit together to easily attain that goal...get either a t25 or 14b from the older eclipse and their bovs too...the 95-99 eclipse bov are plastic which won't really be efficient... get a manifold off of hf crx and purchase an adapter...etc...its pretty cheap to piece a kit together with a side mount for the sohc motor have you tried http://www.homemadeturbo.com

Yeah,I've checked HMT and I have a issue of the april 03 honda tuning in which they used a bunch of left over mitsubishi parts to boost a crx. They ended up with 172 whp and 167 lb-ft of torque at 6 pounds of boost from a t25.That's where I got the idea and inspiration to do this.I realize that I won't get the same exact results as they did,but I don't see why I couldn't get close.

you can spend a tone of time and almost as much putting your own kit together, or you can go buy a prebuilt kit (I prefer the greddy stuff) and do it fast simple and easy the first time.

I really would consider a prebuild manufactured kit your not looking for gobs of power and your wanting something relyable. these kits fit right into that catogory perfectly.

I haven't ruled out the greddy kit ,or any other prebuilt d series kits.I'm just seeing and factoring in all my options. Now that I'm starting to price things,it does seem about even. The advantage of me putting together a kit is that I can get parts as the funds allow, but my goal is not buy anything until I have at least $600 put away for soley this project.

Definitely go T3, i have one on my d16z6 and love it. As long as you dont go over 225 whp your fuel pump will work just fine. I ran my stock one at 9psi for about 5 months, no problems. I have been boosted for about 7 months now and still have my stock headtuds and headgasket in. I have ARP's under my bed just havent had a a lot of time due to college. Your clutch WILL not last long and i would get an ACT XT-SS and a 12lb flywheel if i were you, thats what i have and it grabs so hard its crazy. You really do need to head over to http://www.turbod16.com great info and tons of knowledgeable d16 guys. Just remember, if you are going to boost it, buy good parts the first time to avoid future problems. Check out the "members classifieds" on turbod16.com last i checked there was a complete greddy kit for cheap from a guy named "highspeedhomie". good luck with the boosted d!!

Just a little update.I decided to start out with the smaller t25 sized turbo and use that as an experience tool so to speak.I want to see how well I can maintain a turbo'd car and how well I enjoy maintaining it.I found a HF manifold and a old school IHI turbo with an internal wastegate from an isuzu.I'm also planning on getting a 6 puck clutch this week because the deal was so good.So I guess this project part has started earlier then I thought.
